Abosso Gold Fields Limited is seeking to appoint a dedicated, committed and self-motivated individual for the position of Unit Manager-Safety & Occupational Hygiene. The incumbent will assist to establish and maintain the management of the Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems and ensure that the system is aligned to OHSAS I8001.He or she will also use his experience to assist the Health,  Safety and Environment Manager in running the day-to-day activities of the Department and in achieving its strategic objective.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Manage the Gold Fields West Africa Technical Training Centre.
    • Develop and implement technical skills development strategy for the Region.
    • Develop and implement mining-related technical training programmes to ensure the availability of required skills for the Region.
    • Perform skill audits to determine future talent/technical needs and develop action plans to address identified developmental and skills gaps.
    • Investigate and evaluate, in consultation with relevant internal stakeholders, new operational methodologies and procedures to ensure operational excellence.
    • Prepare and manage the overall technical training budget of the Region, whilst ensuring that all operational and capital needs are adequately catered for to effectively deliver on the Region’s needs.
    • Provide ongoing leadership, mentoring, and coaching to direct reports to complement their training and development that enhances employee engagement, productivity and job satisfaction.
    • Identify, analyse and manage risks within area of responsibility through the implementation of effective mitigating strategies in a timely manner.
    • Consistently demonstrate and entrench behaviours, actions and attitudes in line with the company’s Vision, Values and Code of Ethics and lead by example to promote the company’s policies, systems and procedures as well as ensure proper governance of same.
    • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all statutory reports(e.g Localization report).

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum of BSc in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with Professional Certificate in Training and Assessment from accredited institution.
  • 10 to 15 years’ experience in Learning and Development in a mining environment, preferably an open pit.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Organizational Development will be an added advantage.
  • Must be a registered member of a professional body, relevant to the mining industry.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the Training and Development Value Chain.
  • Hands-on experience in delivering technical and professional training to employees.
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment associated with mining and maintenance activities including heavy mining equipment, boiler making, electrical and mechanical engineering.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of relevant mining legislations including the Mining and Minerals Act.
  • Strong business acumen and leadership capabilities with innovative approach to solving problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Medically fit for the position and environment.
  • Must possess a valid Ghanaian driver’s licence.
