Abosso Goldfields Ltd, a subsidiary of Gold Fields Limited. Located in a tropical climate, the Damang Gold Mine is a world-class operation,consisting of 25 Mtpa open pit-mining operations and a 5.2 Mtpa CIL metallurgical plant. The mine is situated in the Western Region of Ghana and is ISO 14001 and OHSAS18001 certificated. It has a current Life of Mine expectency to the year 2019 and beyond.

1. Plant Supervisor

Job Description

Purpose of the Job:
Gold Fields Ghana, Tarkwa Mine is seeking to engage the services of a Plant Supervisor to assist in ensuring that management systems, processes, and policies are in place to keep the plant running at maximum recovery. The incumbent will also liaise with other units within the department to improve plant efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that acceptable systems, practices, methods and procedures are maintained
  • Maintain the highest standards in terms of safety (OSHAS 18001) and environmental management (ISO 14001) as well as ensure compliance with the ICMI code
  • Application of knowledge based experiences to achieve work place targets
  • Co-ordinate and supervise activities of staff within the shift Carry out formal and informal coaching of assigned subordinates
  • Ensure that staff within the shift exhibit adherence to acceptable working standards
  • Execution of both daily routine and non-routine work according to policies and procedures within prescribed guidelines
  • Use proactive approach and good judgment to overcome obstacles during shift
  • Supervise good house keeping
  • Suggest ways to improve performance; safety and production

Required Skills or Experience

 

  • A tertiary qualification in Metallurgical Engineering/Mineral Engineering
  • At least 5 years experience as a supervisory in a Metallurgical Plant
  • Proficiency in the application of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Good supervisory skills as well as the ability to work on the job without supervision
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Hazard identification and risk assessment skills
  • Understanding of good metallurgical practices
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, mine standards and codes of practice
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skill and the ability to interact with people of diverse cultures and levels
  • Demonstrable understanding of plant and chemical safety
  • Medical fitness for the position and environment
  • A valid and current light duty vehicle license and proficiency in driving light vehicles

 

2. Shift Supervisor – CIL Treatment

Job Description

Purpose of the Job:
Gold Fields Ghana is seeking to engage the services of an experienced individual to take responsibility for the day to day operation of the treatment section of the CIL plant. The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring stable CIL operation and optimal carbon management through good coordination with engineering personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that clear performance standards are set and maintained for the section in line with the company’s targets
  • Daily operation of the treatment section of the CIL Plant which includes the CIL tanks, elution and water services
  • Control area of operation in accordance with operating procedures
  • Monitor and ensure that technical operating targets are achieved
  • Ensure required reagent addition rates are used as determined by the technical metallurgical team
  • Ensure compliance with the ICMI code in the treatment section of the plan as well as maintaining the highest standards in terms of safety (OSHAS 18001) and environmental management (ISO 14001)
  • Report to general plant supervisors on ways of improving performance; safety, production and other areas of concern
  • Ensure good house keeping

Required Skills or Experience

 

  • A tertiary qualification in Metallurgical Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized institution
  • Minimum of two (2) years relevant CIL gold plant experience in a supervisory capacity
  • Good working knowledge of the ICMI code and its implementation
  • Experience in implementing OSHAS 18001 as well as ISO 14001 management codes
  • Well developed oral and written communication skills in English
  • Good knowledge in the application of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Be a team player with good interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Medical fitness for the position and environment
  • A valid and current light duty vehicle license and proficiency in driving light vehicles

 

3. SAP Super User – Materials Management/Workflow

Purpose of the Job:
Gold Fields Ghana is seeking to employ an experienced and self motivated SAP Super User who will apply acquired knowledge and experience to provide the SAP Business Process Owners and SAP End-users with timeous and relevant assistance in order to ensure appropriate and productive use of the business processes in SAP Material Management. The successful applicant will also be responsible for coordinating continuous improvement of relevant business processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide all the Ghana SAP end Users with appropriate SAP support and assistance in order to optimize usage of the business application
  • Ensuring continuous business improvement as per customer requirements, that is relevant Business Process Owners (Regional Manager – Supply Chain, Unit manager Supply Chain)
  • Standardization, updating and management of relevant master data
  • Ensure end user queries are appropriately addressed and rectified
  • Assist SAP Business Process Owners with process improvement
  • Assist with new reporting requirements and SAP Projects
  • Assist with the roll-out of SAP to other group companies
  • Monitor correct application of SAP business processes
  • Ensure that business process policies are adhered to
  • Organise training sessions for users based on training needs analysis
  • Development of required training material needed to train users
  • Assist with new SAP projects

Required Skills or Experience

 

  • Bachelors Degree in Supply Chain Management and/or a Business field relevant to the position
  • Minimum of 1 year relevant SAP experience
  • Around 5 years business process experience in a related area
  • Experience in working with computer application used in Material Management
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skill and the ability to interact with people of diverse cultures and levels
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation and organizational skills
  • Be self-reliant, self-driven and results oriented
  • Analytical and be able to pay attention to detail
  • Capable of prioritizing and managing his/her time and work load effectively
  • Proficiency in the application of Microsoft Office Suite with Advanced Excel skills
  • Must be customer orientated and a team player
  • Good Business Acumen
  • Be willing and able to travel between operations whenever necessary
  • Medical fitness for the position and environment
  • A valid and current light duty vehicle license and proficiency in driving light vehicles

It will be advantageous if applicant has:

  • A related post-graduate qualification and/or professional qualification
  • Functional experience in the mining industry

 

4. Mining Engineer – (C3)

Job Description

Purpose of the Job:
Gold Fields Ghana is seeking to employ qualified Mining Engineers for its operations in Tarkwa. Successful applicants will be required to work in an Open Pit Mining Environment for production optimisation according to policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Determines and monitors which material goes into which plant/crusher/waste dumps
  • Ensures that whatever is planned for the short term enhances performance
  • Ensures effective dust suppression on haul roads in the pits
  • Controlling pits by ensuring that mining is done to specification/plan/design
  • Ensures that plans are communicated and understood by relevant parties
  • Maintain a culture of Continuous Improvement
  • Ensures the achievement of qualitative and quantitative outputs through the efficient utilization of available resources
  • Apply knowledge and experience to solve problems during the shift
  • Maintain a safe and friendly working environment
  • Initiate cost saving practices and productivity improvement of specially assigned projects

  • BSc (Hons) or Diploma in Mining Engineering
  • Demonstrable understanding of open pit mining operations
  • Supervisory skills and ability to lead and motivate a team
  • Computer literacy and experience in the use of mining software programmes

  • Medical fitness for the position and environment
  • A hands-on approach and be willing to work long hours to obtain the required results
  • Valid Ghanaian driver’s license
