This is an Intermediate level position in the consulting team and is regarded as a professional person in the delivery of geotechnical and tailings services, in line with the Golder suite of engineering products.

Job Description

Job Title: Geotechnical/Tailings Engineer

Responsibilities / Duties:

Provide services on tailings projects in the mining industry including:

• Design and inspection of tailings and water storage facilities

• The means of construction of tailings deposits.

• The operation and management of deposits.

• The properties of tailings.

• The behavior of tailings.

Manage, analyze and prepare reports for geotechnical projects which may include the following:

• Foundations for medium to large industrial developments and multi-story developments with basements.

• Earthworks, ground improvement and development

• Problematic soils

Provide technical advice and consultancy on complex tailings issues to clients (external & internal)

Develop client relationship and build business

Use advanced techniques, modifications and extension of theories, practices to synthesise and analyse data for decision making/ recommendations

Build reputation as Technical Consultant / Specialist

Keep abreast of advancing technologies, methods and research & development

Closure & deposits stability and seepage analysis

Provide safety leadership in Health & Safety (OH&S incident reporting)

Participate in training activities, mentoring and transferring knowledge to junior geotechnical engineers.

Plan, develop schedules, coordinate and direct manpower on important engineering projects to meet completion deadlines.

Supervise, coordinate and review/evaluate activities carried out by junior engineers.

Prepare proposals and reports for clients

Be an active part of the Golder team, operational best practice and Balance Score Card

Qualification:

Relevant Degree in the Geotechnical / Civil Engineering

Professional Register at GHIE (Min 4 years)

Experience:

5 Years plus experience post-graduation

Legislation related to Engineering / Geotechnical environment

Financial Knowledge

Experience at a consulting firm

Project Management Skills

MS Word, MS Excel (Advanced), MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook , MS Projects

Competencies:

The employee has an increased level of specialist skills in technical discipline area, strong project management skills, or a mix of both.

Displays independence in completing work tasks.

Makes decisions of moderate complexity with less frequent input and review from senior staff.

Major focus is leadership of technical excellence or project management for larger and more complex projects with less supervision required.

Provides technical direction to junior and intermediate staff.

Is responsible for completion of reports / documents and proposals with senior review.

This is the first level having more regular contribution to group or team goals and planning.

Motivates and encourages junior and intermediate staff to achieve results.
