The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) works with partners to enhance crop quality and productivity, reduce producer and consumer risks, and generate wealth from agriculture, with the ultimate goals of reducing hunger, malnutrition, and poverty. IITA’s research-for-development (R4D) focuses on addressing the development needs of tropical countries. The institute was established in 1967 and is headquartered in Ibadan, Nigeria, with several research stations across Africa. IITA is a nonprofit organization governed by a Board of Trustees, supported by several countries and the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
IITA Ghana is seeking research staff to work on the Africa Research in sustainable intensification for the next generation (Africa RISING) project in the 3 northern regions
Job Description
Job Title: Research Technician – Crop Production
Responsibilities
• Work with farmers, research, extension and development partners
• Establish and monitor on-farm cereal, legume and vegetable trials
• Apply experimental treatments with minimum supervision
• Collect and enter data into computer
• Assist with data analysis and writing reports
• Assist with dissemination of good crop management practices
• Assist with organising workshops, meetings and monitoring tours
• Establish and maintain contacts with farmers and relevant stake holders
• Perform any other official duties assigned by supervisor
Qualification Required & Experience
• BSc or Diploma in Crop Production, Agronomy or Crop Science
• High National Diploma in Crop Production, Agronomy or Crop Science
• National Diploma in Crop Production, Agronomy or Crop Science
Required Skills and Experience
• A minimum of 2 to 3 years of post qualification research experience
• Demonstrated skills in data collection and analysis
• Good computer skills
• Good writing and verbal communication skills in English
• Knowledge of at least one native language
Location: Navorongo or Bolgatanga – Upper East Region and Wa, Upper West Region
