Insurance is a means of protection from financial loss. It is a form of risk management primarily used to hedge against the risk of a contingent, uncertain loss.
An entity which provides insurance is known as an insurer, insurance company, or insurance carrier. A person or entity who buys insurance is known as an insured or policyholder. The insurance transaction involves the insured assuming a guaranteed and known relatively small loss in the form of payment to the insurer in exchange for the insurer’s promise to compensate the insured in the event of a covered loss. The loss may or may not be financial, but it must be reducible to financial terms, and must involve something in which the insured has an insurable interest established by ownership, possession, or preexisting relationship.

Job Title: Senior Insurance Officer
Job Summary
• Arranges for appropriate insurance contracts for both the company and members of staff
• Vets all completed proposal forms before submission to insurance companies
• Goes through insurance policies received on behalf of the company and members of staff
• Vets premiums charged by insurance companies
• Gives advice on insurance issues to both the company and members of staff
• Represents the company in insurance matters
• Negotiates with insurance companies for insurance claim settlements
• Deals with the Police Service for police reports and amicable settlement of motor accident issues
• Arranges for revision of values of both company and current market values
• Liaises with insurance companies
Qualification Required & Experience
• A recognized first degree in insurance
• Membership of a professional association in insurance, i.e Chartered Insurance institute (CII) will be an advantage
• 8 year post-qualification experience

• Must have an understanding of insurance practice
• Must have expertise in insurance
• Must have the ability to negotiate
• Must be analytical and be able to make deductive conclusions
• Must have the ability to plan, organize and coordinate
• Must have good management principles
