Ghana is an agrarian economy and most poor and food insecure people reside in the rural areas. Ghana has seen regional differences in it’s developmental progress. Northern Ghana, for instance, remains the poorest parts of the country with most food insecure people suffering from multiple nutritional disorders. Since agriculture is the mainstay of majority of the people in this part of the country, the effective way of transforming their lives and addressing the persistent poverty menace is through agriculture development.

Job Title: New MSc. Internship Opportunities
Any such progress in the sector would have great consequence in transforming the economy of Ghana through poverty reduction, food security, employment creation and agro-industrial development. Several large agricultural and social development programs have, therefore, been implemented in Ghana, particularly in the North. Other such programs are currently under implementation and from all indications, more programs would be implemented in these parts of the country in the future. While successes may have been attained, the overall impact of raising agricultural productivity in the North may have been low, while productivity increase could have been larger in other parts of the country. In order to enhance the effectiveness of current and future programs in boosting agricultural productivity, reducing poverty and improving food security, this thesis research will tease out the lessons learned so far and arrive at recommendations for more impactful program activities
