The role holder will report to the Managing Director and be responsible for providing the organization with effective legal services, advice, and representation for complicated legal issues related to the Bank’s mandate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and adopt policies and procedures designed to insure that the organization and its employees comply with required laws and regulations
- Provide leadership and direction on regulatory and ethical business conduct
- Partner with management with respect to strategic issues and administering policies and procedures
- Implement the legal processes required to affect the privileges, obligations, and rights of the organization
- Prepare and review various legal documents such as contracts, licenses, leases, sales, purchases, real estate, etc
- Apply for registration or copyrights of the products, devices, processes, and trademarks of the organization
- Examine legal information to find out the advisability of prosecuting or defending lawsuit
- Conduct pretrial preparations and defending the organization in law cases
- Examine material, such as publications, advertisements etc. for legal implications
- Represent the organization before administrative or quasi-judicial agencies
- Discuss with colleagues specialized in specific areas of law for establishing and verifying groundwork for legal personnel
- Advise officials on government regulations, tax matters, and legal rights
- Work very closely with the front office teams to develop bespoke, innovative products, including structuring, documentation and execution
- Provide advice regarding transactions of business concerning directors, stockholders, officers, and corporate relationship with public
- Investigate compliance issues and coordinates response to regulatory inquiries or examinations
- Train employees on compliance topics and best practices
Required Skills or Experience

- Must possess a Bachelor of Law degree from an accredited Law school
- Be a member of the Ghana Bar Association
- Must have approximately 10-15 years of experience with a Bank, Investment Bank, or regulatory agency preferred
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with senior legal staff
- Knowledge of Ghana laws and regulations governing banking operations
- Knowledge of banking and Treasury products) such as Fixed Income Securities, Foreign Exchange, Derivatives and Structuring and documentation (Credit, FX, Rate, Cash and Derivatives) will be an advantage
- Expert judgment and decision making skills
- Ability to prioritize and organize work effectively to meet deadlines
