Job Description

Job Title:  Director of Nursing Services

Job Purpose

• To ensure and maintain high nursing and midwifery standards in the hospital

Duties and Responsibilities

• The position is a full-time job
• Set standards for nursing and midwifery practice in consultation with Nursing and Midwifery council
• Evaluate nursing and midwifery practices towards the improvement of nursing and midwifery services
• Promote the establishment and monitoring of quality assurance systems for nursing and midwifery services in the hospital
• Provide technical advice on planning nursing and midwifery manpower needs of the hospital
• Ensure the equitable distribution of nursing and midwifery personnel in the hospital
• Provide overall responsibility for monitoring and evaluating performance of nurses and midwives in the hospital
• Provide leadership and mentorship to inspire nurses and midwives for future development
• Ensure the development and implementation of policies and standards on nursing and midwifery
• Ensure effective dissemination of information on nursing and midwifery matters to staff in the hospital
• Plan succession in the nursing and midwifery services of the hospital
• Initiate action on the employment process for nursing and midwifery personnel
• Submit regular and annual reports on nursing and midwifery activities to the Chief Executive
• Ensure the welfare of nursing and midwifery personnel in the hospital
• Coordinate and contribute to research and development activities in nursing and midwifery
• Establish and promote networks with local and other international nursing and midwifery organisation
• Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans for nursing and midwifery services in the hospital
• Advise the Chief Exective and management on nursing and midwifery matters
• Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Chief Executive

Qualification Required & Experience

• Registered Nurse or Midwife with a postgraduate degree in a clinical or relevant area and in good standing with the nursing and midwifery council of Ghana
• A minimum of 3 years working experience at the level of Deputy Director of Nursing services or a minimum of 8 years of Pincipal Nursing/Midwifery Officer
• Evidence of continuing professional development and training in leadership and management
• Experience of policy and standards development
• Good computer literacy and skills
• Good flair for writing reports on the job
• Research experience
