Job Description
Job Title: Physical Education Teaching Assistant
Scope of Responsibilities
The teaching assistant will work in collaboration with the teacher to plan, teach and assess the program for the particular grade level or subject. The assistant will take an active part in instructional activities, using strategies agreed in advance with the teacher. In order to respond to the needs of individual students, they will get to know each student well – academically and social/emotionally.
Specific Responsibilities/Expectations
Equipment rooms should be organized and equipment easily accessible
Set up equipment before classes (at multiple venues), and putting equipment away after classes
Check new orders, inventory, and organize with existing equipment
Should be present/available for all classes
Build relationships with students, and assist with student learning and class engagement
TA can/should be able to cover for the teacher as needed
Responsible for gathering equipment requests from other departments for various reasons (i.e. field trips)
Maintain locks for cages—all cages should have working PE locks on them
Expected to supervise locker rooms during changing periods
Work with the teacher(s) and/or principal(s), within regular working hours, to organize in classroom and out of classroom division-wide events, and any other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Work with teacher to conduct swimming lessons for students
Attend official department meetings as requested by HOD and/or Principal.
Develop his/her professional knowledge and expertise through training offered by the school.
Required Skills or Experience
Teaching qualification and/or substantial proven experience working with young people, plus evidence of good general education (degree preferred).
Experience of working in a sporting activity ( Soccer, basketball, Volley ball ,Swimming)
Experience of working with children aged 3 – 16
Solid organizational skills
Proven interest in inquiry-based instruction
Proven ability to work collaboratively with others
Ability to coach / instruct in swimming an advantage
