Job Description

Marie Stopes International Ghana (MSIG) has vacancy for well-organised, client-oriented and multi-tasked individual with relevant qualification and experience to occupy the under listed position in the organization.

Length of contract: 1 year (with Possibility of extension)

Role of Purpose:
The Research Officer is responsible for providing overall research support to the Regional Research Advisor for West and Southern Africa based in Accra-Ghana. The post involves international travel.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support the development of a user manual and training package to costing MSI services
  • Train MSI programme staff to implement in costing tool
  • Support the Regional Research Advisor with ad hoc data entry, management, analysis, interpretation and reporting
  • Work with MSI programmes to identify and access new datasets
  • Research and pursue innovations that might present research opportunities for MSI
  • Assist MSI programmes with the implementation and evaluation of a new poverty measurement tool
  • Build relations with key stakeholders in the region including government and researchers for potential collaboration and capacity-building

This is a local position. Interested Non-Ghanaians must therefore have the necessary legal permits required to work in Ghana.  

Required Skills or Experience

Advertisement
  • First Degree in Statistics or Mathematics: Social Science; Economics or Demography and Population Science
  • Fluent English both oral and written

The candidate must have:

  • Experience in health economics, public health, social science or reproductive healthcare
  • Research and project management experience
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, analyzing and writing-up high quality research
  • Demonstrated capabilities of producing results when working with individuals from a range of cultures with varying levels of expertise
  • Demonstrated experience of actively collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven ability to train others

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong quantitative analytical skills, confident with uni- and bi-variate analysis as a minimum
  • IT literate – competence with MS Office (including Excel) and SPSS (preferred) or STATA
  • Proven ability to communicate research findings clearly and concisely
  • The applicant must be pro-choice
  • The applicant must be analytical and detail-oriented
