A good health care system must not focus only on the physical well-being but ensure that the mental and social needs of all users are met. This is an arduous task for developed and developing countries alike.
Ghana has made significant strides in the health sector since independence. Average life expectancy is now 60 years – compared with 45 years in 1957; Infant Mortality Rate has dropped from 77 per 1,000 live births in 1983 to 50 per 1,000 live births in 2008. Despite these gains, there are a myriad of bedevilments to the health sector: (1) shortage of health facilities, (2) inadequate medical equipment, (3) poor working conditions, (4) inadequate training and educational facilities, (5) poor remuneration of health care workers, (6) poor attitude of health workers and (7) delays in the delivery of services at health facilities.

Job Description

Job Title: Accountant

Finance and Accounting Systems Implementation

Policies and Procedures Manual Develpoment & Implementation

  • Review existing records keeping system, accounting policies & procedures for its suitability for the hospital
  • Review existing internal controls
  • Introduce/Review relevant books of account to ensure adequate records are kept
  • Be familiar with computerised accounting system e.g. Quick Books

Fixed Assets and Inventory Management System Development

  • Physical fixed assets verification
  • Reconciliation of the fixed assets register
  • Fixed asstes tagging and valuation
  • Physical inventory verification
  • Inventory tagging and valuation
  • Management system implementation

Job Evaluation and Payroll Systems Development

  • Develop/Review payroll policies and procedures manual
  • Prepare monthly payroll
  • Issue staff with monthly payslips

Operations Compliance and Supervision

Tax Compliance Services

  • Statutory tax computation and filing
  • Withholding tax returns
  • Value Added Tax and Nation Health Insurance Levy returns
  • Personal income tax returns/PAYE
  • Make SSNIT payments on behalf of staff

Management Reporting

  • Prepare monthly management reports
  • Prepare mid year and annual reports
  • Advice management on the facts behind the figures

Insurance Claim Management

  • Submission and follow-up of properly completed Private Health Insurance Claims
  • Reconciliation with insurance firms

Financial Advisory

  • Provision of sound financial advice to the management

Required Skills or Experience

  • Degree or HND in Accounting with Qualification in CA or ACCA
  • Minimum 4 years working experience in Accounting preferably with experience in controlling and reporting
  • Strong accounting and financial knowledge
  • Experience with Quick Books financial software
  • Excellent communication skills, and enthusiastic approach and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work independently and at the same time good team work skills
