Taloca GmbH, Ghana branch is operating as a registered entity in Ghana. The main function of this branch is to operate as a point of contact for the Global Cocoa Price Risk Management Team, based in Zug, Switzerland.

Job Description

Job Title: Cocoa Manager – West Africa

Responsibilities

The role will be responsible for cocoa related activities in the region with focus on Ghana and Ivory Coast. The person will be a procurement and business analyst in the cocoa category and should have the capabilities of analyzing market data, understand the local markets and developments in the cocoa and related sectors and provide quality service to all key stakeholders.

Additionally, the position is the link between the Global Commodities, Sustainability and R&D teams and MDLZ-Cadbury businesses in Ghana and Nigeria.

The person will provide commercial input into origin programs, particularly on farmer training, input supply and supply chain development. Furthermore, it will provide local procurement support, especially in managing supplier relationship.

The West Africa Cocoa Manager should have four clear areas on involvement going forward:

• Managerial and technical lead on cocoa crop forecasting and model

• Cocoa commercial activities and conversations representing Taloca or CPRM

• Linking into the Global CPRM & support the delivery of the Cocoa Life program in Ghana,

• Drive efficiency and effectiveness within the Ghana Cocoa Life operations

The operation is mainly a Cost Centre, with an estimated expenditure of $ 400K per year.

The main responsibilities will include:

• Lead and manage the various field teams for cocoa trekking/monitoring operations, collection of data

• Analyse data and provide regular and timely cocoa fundamental reports to the CPRM team

• Act as a link to key cocoa players with entities like Barry Callebaut, OLAM, ECOM or CARGILL, COCOBOD / CMC in Ghana and CCC in the Ivory Coast

• Ability to network with all stakeholders (government agencies, cocoa traders, processors, NGO’s, civil society and businesses in the region)

• Provide commercial and technical support to the Cocoa programs both within the Company and industry led programs in the region.

• Provide commercial and technical support to the Cocoa Partnership Program / Cocoa Life and overall sourcing programs

• Supervise the contracting and management of local partners

• Supervise the Cocoa Life team HR

• Build and maintain beneficial partnerships and relations with national platform to benefit Cocoa Life

• Lead of technical part of Cocoa Life Program (managerial responsibility stays with Ghana Program Dir.)

a. guide and instruct the local Cocoa Life team members to create an efficient and effective working environment

b. technical assistance and reporting on yield monitoring on cocoa farms

The role will require strong leadership, communication skills and ability to maintain close contact and relationship within cross functional teams.

Key outputs of the role will include:

• Weekly/Monthly Crop Reports to the CPRM Team

• Updates on country / regional developments

• Monthly inputs to the Risk Management review meetings

• Other research together with Cocoa CPRM Analyst as cocoa processing or Chemical input/usage information

• Financial planning and budgeting

• Regular updates on industry developments

• Quarterly crop and yield reports for Cocoa Life yield monitoring program stakeholders

Knowledge: including education, qualifications and training

• Graduate Education

• Technical Education (Agriculture or Horticulture)

• Communication in English, Influencing stakeholders

• PC Skills (MS Office)

• Relationship Management – ability to manage relationship both internal and external, which are crucial to the organisation. Able to understand SRM methodology and put it in practice

• Procurement business processes – able to handle tools, and applications which are useful to the organisation, handle logistics, administrative optimization, office file management

Experience

• 5 to 8 years of experience in agriculture commodities and with preferably some years in the cocoa sector

• Commodity price risk management

• Knowledge of other agricultural crops

• Working with government agencies, private sector

Languages

• English – Required

• French – Preferred
