The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) was established under the National Health Insurance Act 2003, Act 650, as a body corporate, with perpetual succession, an Official Seal, that may sue and be sued in its own name. As a body corporate, the Authority in the performance of its functions may acquire and hold movable and immovable property and may enter into a contract or any other transaction.
A new law, Act 852 has replaced ACT 650 in october 2012 to consolidate the NHIS, remove administrative bottlenecks,introduce transparency, reduce opportunities for corruption and gaming of the system, and make for more effective governance of the schemes
Job Description
Job Title: Database Administrator
Job Purpose:
• To improve on data management practices by supporting and administering all of the Oracle and Microsoft Database instances and Microsoft Database instances and environments as well as design, develop and deploy applications whiles ensuring operational quality and continuity for all applications.
Responsibilities:
• Maintain Oracle, Microsoft Database and application tools
• Allocate system storage and plan future storage requirements for the database system
• Create primary database storage structures (table spaces) after application developers have designed an application
• Create primary objective (tables, views, indexes) once application developers have designed an application
• Modify the database structure, as necessary, from information given by application developers
• Enroll users and manage data security
• Ensure compliance with license agreement
• Control and monitor user access to the database
• Monitor and optimize the performance of the database
• Plan for backup and recovery of database information
• Maintain archived data on tape
• Backup and restore the database
• Data modeling and Oracle database design
• Handle data interface protocols
• Manage development projects
• Contacting Oracle and Microsoft Corporations for technical support
Qualification Required & Experience
• A good first degree with a minimum of 5 years working experience in ICT
• Minimum of 2 years Oracle and other database administration experience
• Oracle PL/SQL development experience
• Minimum of 2 years Linux experience
• Working experience of the entire systems development life cycle
• Working knowledge of hardware,Windows and Linux operating systems and network protocols
• Experience in large ICT project development
• Oracle certification or training would be advantageous
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Documentation skills for processes and procedures
• Experience with MS SQL Server will be an advantage
