Job Descriptions

Job Title: Metallurgical Engineer

This position has indirect supervisory responsibility in the Metallurgical section for laboratory and plant work activities performed by the Metallurgical Laboratory Assistants, National Service Personnel, Student on industrial training and contractors working for metallurgy.

Purpose

This position has supervisory responsibility for the metallurgical laboratory and its functions and assists in other metallurgical functions.

Essential Duties

• Accepts personal responsibility for health and safety of every worker under or assigned to his/her supervision
• • Manages the metallurgical laboratory and its functions and completes monthly reports
  • Conducts laboratory test work and investigations(routine & non-routine) and produces reports as appropriate
  • Produces Process Plant daily report and weekly reagents report
  • Assists in resolving problems that affect the efficiency of the CIL Plant
  • Relieves other Metallurgists when they proceed on annual leave
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with Contract Assay laboratory establishes procedures and the quality assurance methods
  • Provides technical assistance/training to plant operators, Metallurgical Assistants, National service personnel and students on attachment on sampling and other relevant plant operator functions
  • Conducts planned task observations on Metallurgical Laboratory Assistants
  • Conducts monthly audit on assay laboratory activities and report as appropriate
  • Ensures the planning and implementation of preventive maintenance programs to maximize efficiency and cost effectiveness of laboratory equipment
  • Ensures completion of follow-up and corrective actions assigned to the metallurgical and assay laboratories

Training & Experience

• • Degree in Extractive Metallurgy or equivalent
  • 3 years or more of the field of experience in metallurgical methods
  • Knowledge and understanding of statutory regulations relevant to safety and the environment of the mining industry
  • Working knowledge of budget and cost control in the process plant environment
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite
