Supervising Authority

The Nurses and Midwives Council of Ghana hereby requests applications from suitable candidates to fill the following vacant positions.
Supervising Authority:

  • Mental Health & Psychiatric Nursing – 1
  • Midwifery – 1
  • Public Health Nursing – 1
  • General Nursing – 1

Responsible to: Deputy Registrar (Supervision and Regional Co-ordination)
Accountable to: Registrar/Chief Executive Officer

Job Purpose:
Monitoring and Supervision to ensure that standards of nursing and midwifery training, education and practice are maintained in the respective specialties.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and supervise all Nursing and Midwifery training Institutions at least twice year
  • Inspect and supervise all healthcare facilities both public and private in the country
  • Prepare reports on the monitoring and supervisory visits with recommendations to improve Nursing and midwifery care to patients/clients
  • Assess training needs of all Nursing and Midwifery training institutions both public and private
  • Plan for follow-up visits to the training schools to assess situation after initial visit
  • Assist in the conduct of action researches to improve nursing and midwifery education and practice
  • Perform any other responsibilities that may be assigned by the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer

 

Required Skills or Experience

  • Masters Degree in Nursing or Midwifery, Educational Administration Or Management
  • At least seven (7) years post registration experience
  • Must have taught in a nursing and or midwifery training institution for at least five (5) years
  • A Registered Nurse or Midwife
  • Desireable: FWACN
  • Appreciable knowledge in Statutory Regulation
  • Knowledge of management principles and practice particularly with regard to nursing and midwifery education and practice
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to organise workload and work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work on own initiative
  • Computer literate
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Proactive attitude and analytical skills
  • Demonstrate flexibility and a methodological approach to work
  • Ability to take initiative and to influence others positively

 

 

Assistant Registrar – Examination/Registration and Indexing

Responsible to: Deputy Registrar (Examination Or Registration and Indexing)
Accountable to: Registrar/Chief Executive Officer

Job Purpose:
To assist in the coordination of activities leading to preparation for conduct and publication of results of Licensing Examinations.

To assist in indexing student nurses and midwives, registration of qualified nurses and midwives and the issuance of certificates as well as verification of credentials of qualified nurses and midwives promptly and efficiently.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Pre Examination:

  • Assist in the processing of test items for all the programmes
  • Assist in the processing of documents of all candidates to sit for the licensing examinations
  • Practical examination: Assist in the processing of various practical nursing assessment tools for the licensing examination

Post Examination:

  • Assist in the safe keeping of all practical assessment sheets and test items and compilation of reports
  • Perform any other responsibilities that may be assigned by the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer OR
  • Carry out prompt and accurate indexing of trainee nurses and midwives
  • Assist in the issuance of certificates and badges to registered nurses and midwives as well as auxiliaries
  • Assist to orientate, assess and register foreign trained nurses and midwives to practice in Ghana
  • Assist in the conduct of action research to improve nursing and midwifery education and practice
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer

 

Required Skills or Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing or Midwifery
  • At least Five (5) years post registration Experience
  • Two (2) years experience in management position
  • A Registered Nurse or Midwife
  • Desirable: Certificate/Diploma in and Administration/Management
  • Appreciable knowledge in Statutory Regulation
  • Good writing and verbal communication skills
  • Good interpersonal relationship
  • Ability to organise workload and work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • Demonstrate ability to work on own initiative
  • Computer literacy very essential (MS Word and Excel)
  • Problem-solving skills

Internal Auditor

Responsible to: Head of Internal Audit
Accountable to: Registrar/Chief Executive Officer

Job Purpose:
To assist the Head of Internal Audit Unit to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of Risk Management Controls and governance processes for the Council.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist to conduct regular and ad hoc audits of operational systems
  • Assist to undertake regular reviews of operations to ensure that internal control measures are in place and maintained effectively
  • Assist to develop an annual audit plan using input from management to identify control priorities and resource requirements for the year
  • Assist to design and implement Internal Audit policies as approved by Management
  • Ensure that financial information produced is reliable
  • Monitor economic and efficient use of the Council’s resources
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and financial regulations
  • Assist to Investigate and report on any irregularities in management of resources
  • Any other relevant duty that may be assigned by the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer

 

Required Skills or Experience

  • A good first degree in Accounting or its equivalent or Part II of ICAG or ACCA or CIMA or CIAs
  • Minimum of five (5) years post-qualification experience
  • Computer literacy in MS Word, Power Point, Excel and familiarity with automated Accounting systems
  • Very good verbal communication skills
  • Must be detail oriented, conscientious and systematic with high level of accuracy
  • Strategic thinking, problem-solving and decision making skills
  • Ability to continuously seek quality service and process improvements in order to support the vision and mission of the Council

Secretary

Zonal Offices – Tamale, Kumasi and Koforidua


Responsible to:
Zonal Officer
Accountable to: Registrar/Chief Executive Officer

Job Purpose:
To provide secretarial and related duties for the effective and efficient management of the Council.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare draft letters based on information provided
  • Type draft letters, reports and minutes
  • Supervise the filing of all letters, reports and minutes
  • Assist in the organisation of meetings, workshops and seminars
  • Screen phone calls and visitors to immediate supervisor
  • Manage the immediate supervisor’s itinerary
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor or the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer

 

Required Skills or Experience

  • At least a Stenographer Grade I certificate from Government Secretarial School or equivalent qualification
  • Minimum of three (3) years post-qualification experience
  • Sound knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access
  • Good Interpersonal skills
  • Must have high level of integrity
  • Ability to type 100 words per minute
  • Demonstrate flexibility and a methodological approach to work
  • Ability to take initiative and to influence others positively
