Job Description

Job Title: Senior Program Associate

The Senior Programme Associate will assume day to day oversight of the Rainforest Alliance’s project portfolio in Ghana. S/he will develop the work plans and budgets in line with institutional procedures and draft reports for donors. The post holder will have the support of the Senior Manager, West Africa, and the international teams in finance, development, Evaluation & Research and the Landscapes & Livelihoods programme. S/he will also support the development of new proposals, providing technical input and necessary local research. S/he will also coordinate with the communications team to generate stories of successes that can be used to promote Rainforest Alliance’s work in Ghana.

  • Lead implementation of projects, as assigned by the Senior Manager, in Ghana and potentially elsewhere in the West Africa region, including recruiting specialist consultant support where approved in the budget, and coordinating with the appropriate international teams;
  • Maintain regular presence in project sites and support the field technicians in their delivery of training and technical assistance;
  • Draft reports on progress to meet donor requirements; organize and accompany visits by donors and international Rainforest Alliance colleagues; alert Senior Manager to challenges and problems encountered in the fulfilment of project deliverables;
  • Support the Senior Manager and international proposal development team to take forward opportunities for fundraising, including liaison with donor agencies as appropriate;
  • Keep informed about event/seminars/workshops in the region related to Rainforest Alliance’s work and attend as agreed with the Senior Manager;
  • Provide the Rainforest Alliance Communications team with information on project impacts and human stories of successes and support the Evaluation & Research team to gather relevant data to track impacts;
  • Provide the Senior Manager, West Africa with activity reports, and provide input into monthly and quarterly activity reports; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • University Degree in agronomy or related field;
  • Experience of cocoa production systems; experience of other crops an advantage;
  • 5-7 years of professional experience;
  • Knowledge of, and commitment to environmental issues and sustainability practices;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with sensitivity to cultural differences;
  • High level of written and verbal proficiency in English;
  • Strong computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint; mapping skills an advantage;
  • Personal traits: Initiative, self-motivated, resourceful, detail-oriented, dependable, strong attention to detail;
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities in a time sensitive manner; and
  • Willingness and ability to travel a minimum of 30% per year in the West Africa region.
