By law, (Education Act, Act 778 of 2008), the country’s Teacher Training Colleges currently numbering 38, have been re-organised to be part of the tertiary education sector to be designated “Colleges of Education”. As a tertiary institution, the aims refer to Research, Teaching and Extension to graduate students in various disciplines of Education.

Job Description

The Position
The College Principal is the chief academic, administrative and disciplinary officer and in that capacity shall, subject to the general direction of Council of the College, or policies that the Council may give:

  • Ensure the implementation of the decisions of Council;
  • Exercise general authority over staff of the College

Be responsible for:

  • Admission of students
  • Discipline and supervision of staff and students
  • Preparation of the annual estimates of income and expenditure for consideration by Council
  • Providing Council with returns, reports and other relevant information is required

 

Required Skills or Experience

The person
The candidate must have:

  • An advanced degree with a research component
  • Rank NOT below Senior Lecturer/Deputy Director (GES)
  • Relevant senior management experiences of at least five (5) years
  • Proven leadership skills and be a team leader
  • Ability to provide confidence as well as direct and motivate staff
  • Must have be more than 55 years at the time of application. Extensive knowledge and experience in the tertiary education landscape will be an added advantage
