To help scale up new connections to off-grid solar PV systems, one of the main areas companies in Ghana require support on is their distribution, marketing and retail strategies. Assessments of a range of off-grid energy companies in Ghana will be carried out, including their marketing, distribution and retail strategies, including their strengths and weaknesses. After this, tailored Technical Assistance (TA) will be provided to up to 5 off-grid energy companies in Ghana, in particular solar lantern, solar home system (SHS), and mini-grid companies. The TA will be provided to the companies to help them more effectively distribute and retail their products, including provide effective customer service strategies, developing new partnerships with other distribution and retail companies that have good presence in rural areas of Ghana, as well as microfinance institutions (MFIs) and rural banks, which are also able to provide consumer finance. The Off-Grid Marketing Advisor will support the development of their marketing materials, training of their sales agents, as well as customer service and other distribution and marketing strategies that will help the companies increase their sales in the most cost-effective manner.

Job Title: Off-Grid Marketing And Distribution Advisor

Responsibilities:

• Carry out detailed assessments of the current marketing, distribution and retail strategies of a range of off-grid energy companies in Ghana.
• Provide on-going Marketing and Retail-focused Technical Assistance (TA) to up to 5 companies to help them develop and implement their marketing, customer service and retail strategies, and increase their sales, in the most cost effective manner to reach new potential customers.
• Support Marketing and Retail Strategies of up to 5 off-grid energy companies on an on-going basis.
• Regular reports of the progress of the companies, in particular their systems sales over time through a range of retail approaches.
• Regular presentations of report findings to a range of stakeholders, as required

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Engineering or Finance or a related field, and at least five years’ experience in the energy sector. Postgraduate degree preferred.
• Experience of providing technical assistance (TA) to off-grid energy companies and/or SMEs, in particular on their marketing and retail strategies, in the international energy or finance sector.
• Experience of analyzing and structuring marketing and retail strategies, ideally of energy companies, including the provision of targeted Technical Assistance (TA).
• Proven written and oral communication skills, teamwork and interpersonal skills dealing with and private sector companies, government agencies and Financial Institutions (FIs).
