The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) started as the Tarkwa Technical Institute (TTI) on 3rd November, 1952 but was officially commissioned by the Government of Ghana, more precisely by His Excellency the Governor of the Gold Coast, Sir Charles Noble Arden Clarke, on 7th October, 1953. In 1961, the Government, upon the advocacy of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, redefined the mission of TTI to incorporate the training of mining technicians and other middle level manpower for the country’s mining and related industries.

Qualifications
(a) Lecturers
Applicants for lectureship appointment should possess a PhD in the relevant field from a recognised university. Research or industrial experience will be an added advantage
Lecturers from a recognised universities may also apply
Applicants with an MPhil or a Researched Masters degree with two or more years teaching experience may also apply
(b) Senior Lecturers
Applicants for the position of Senior Lecturer should hold a PhD in the relevant area and should be or should have been a Lecturer with at least 4 years university teaching experience and a minimum of four (4) refereed journal publications arising out of research
Senior Lecturers from recognised universities may also apply
(c) Associate Professor
Should have been Senior Lecturer with at least eight (8) years university teaching experience and a minimum of ten (10) refereed journal publications arising out of research
Associate Professors from recognised universities may also apply
(d) Professor
Should have been Associate Professor with at least twelve (12) years university teaching experience and a minimum of twenty (20) refereed journal
publications arising out of research
Professors from recognised universities may also apply
