Job Description

CATEGORY: GS-5
Duration: Fixed Term appointment; one year initially
Organisational Unit: UNFPA Country Officer

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the National Programme Officer (GENDER), the Programme Assistant is responsible for the following:

Supports the design, planning and management of UNFPA’s country programme by providing and managing Gender data inputs, providing logistical support, monitoring Gender project implementation and following up on recommendations
Applies established systems and procedures and assists in the creation of substantive knowledge by compiling, synthesizing and analysing information relevant to Gender
Participates in the identification and formulation of the country programme and Gender projects by compiling and analyzing information in the subject areas of UNFPA assistance to the Government, drafts Gender project proposals and work plans
Evaluates Gender project activities, establishing and implementing mechanisms to systematically assess the achievement of results, conducting field visits, participating in review meetings and preparing regular imputs to status and progress reports
In co-ordination with national counterparts and project personnel, guides routine implementation of assigned Gender projects, co-ordinating the delivery of project inputs, ensuring participation of national counterparts in training activities and study tours
Provides logistical support to Gender projects by co-ordinating the organisation of review meetings and other project related workshops and events
Participates in training and guiding project personnel and staff on national execution and programme policies and procedures
Contributes to the creation and sharing of knowledge by synthesizing and documenting findings and lessons learned, success stories and best practices, strategies and approaches of the Country Office and drafting relevant materials for dissemination
Supports the advocacy and resource mobilisation strategy of the Country Office by compiling and synthesizing relevant Gender background materials for use in discussions and public events
Provides assistance in organising and conducting donor meetings and public information events

UNFPA is looking for candidate who have:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Population, Demography, Sociology, Health/Epidemiology, information Science and/or other related Social Science
5 years of relevant work experience in project management support, research and monitoring/evaluation
Broad understanding of gender and development issues in Ghana
Strong competency in office software applications, especially Microsoft Excel
Conversant with programme implementation and funding modalities of International organisations, especially the UN system
