The Songhai Trust team have, thanks in part, to a donation from Maersk, have grown from 1 cube to 12 further buildings, and have created a building complex from converted containers to house the “UNTAMED EMPIRE CREATIVE BUSINESS INCUBATOR” that continues, since 2017, to identify, train and help fashion designers, artists, product designers and other creatives to build their businesses. Over 50 brands are currently part of the collective.
The mission: Equipping Ghanaian emerging market creatives to better compete in a global marketplace by providing business, IT and design training and helping to market and distribute their products.
Job Title: General/Communication and Engagement Manager
The General Manager is responsible for the overall coordination and effectiveness of the Management team, ensuring it grows in its ambition to be an effective and trusted team that supports and enables the global community to succeed, starting from the local creatives.
This is a new role, with scope for significant personal growth and exposure. As a young, but fast-growing organization, this will be a critical role involving a breadth of accountabilities including representing the organization externally, fundraising, maintaining and/or building robust operational processes and engaging a diverse and geographically spread set of stakeholders.
The successful candidate will be able to balance strategic thinking with complex coordination and delivery. They will work closely with the Advisory Board, and Director whilst building a cohesive team inside the Management team that proves its value through its impact.
-Create and manage the day-to-day operation of the Management team including managing the team, ensuring health and sustainability of organization and well-being of employees and brands.—Maintain and monitor required processes, tools and procedures to ensure continued improvement in the effectiveness of Management team and Advisory Board
-Co-create Management teams plans with key stakeholders and ensure delivery, including the execution of key milestones such as the launch of each container, Collector’s Circle and Gala Dinner
-Articulate and evaluate organizational strategy and approach and support the community in developing and implementing local plans
-Equip the community with the right tools to perform and ensure overall orchestration of activities–Implement and manage effective budget control systems and coordinate community reporting (both financial and activity)
-Develop, lead and execute a fundraising strategy that drives sponsorship opportunities
-Build diverse and innovative revenue streams that compliment the organizations aims
-Maintain and nurture long-term relationships and partnership
-Provide a leadership role model for the Advisory Board, Container Partner Heads & Ambassadors) and when representing the organization to potential partners, sponsors and at key events
-Ensure innovative mechanisms for feedback, monitoring and evaluation and measurement of success criteria are built into the fabric of the organisation
-Establish and maintain governance and internal processes including organisational processes such as internal communication, financial planning, HR/people processes and risk management.
NOTE:ROLE WILL COMBINED WITH THE FOLLOWING COMMUNICATION AND ENGAGEMENT DUTIES.
-Design and management of an innovative integrated communications strategy that supports the organisational aims and unifies the community
-Developing the UNTAMED EMPIRE brand identity, including all assets and visual identity that ensure consistency across our organisation
-Ensuring a high-profile presence through all relevant channels and platforms (including improving and maintaining our website) that establishes our thought and creative leadership
-Build lasting strategic partnerships and effective campaigns that lead to further reach and action with impact
-BA/BS degree in Project Management, Business / Strategy, Organisation Development qualifications a plus.
-Masters is an advantage
-4-6 years’ experience as a General Manager or Senior Managerial role with a focus in organizational policy development and implementation (ESPECIALLY AND UNDERSTANDING OF GHANAIAN LEGISLATIVE REQUIREMENTS)
-Excellent communication skills, strong facilitation and group problem-solving skills
-Understanding of business process improvement/redesign and systems thinking approaches
-Team and leadership development
-Understanding of strategy development and rigorous reporting
-Project and program management skills including risk and issue analysis & mitigation
-Experience and insight into some / all of the following areas a bonus: systems thinking approaches, communications, and campaigns, movement building/activism
