Job Requirements
Job Title: Manager, Legal
Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Head of Legal, the Legal Manager will assist in providing legal advice to the Bank to help make the right decisions and comply with the legal requirements for the Bank’s operations.
The role holder will be responsible for studying the laws and government policies in relation to the financial sector and make the necessary recommendation on Bank’s policies through the Head of Legal. The
Legal Manager will assist in the monitoring and evaluation of the performance of defaulting customers and effective coordination of the Documentation and Litigation Units of the Department in order to
achieve the Bank’s objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manager, Legal will help advise on contractual risk including the monitoring and evaluation of the performance of defaulting customers and study the governance policy in relation to the financial sector and make the necessary recommendation on bank policy.
Provide support on court proceeding/action against persons, enterprises, partnership, companies or business entities who are refusing to pay but are capable or have valuable to ‘attach’ in satisfaction of judgment debt.
Help provide timely legal advice, briefings, and recommendations on key legal issues to stakeholders including applicable legislation’s, banking codes, governance regulations as may be applicable.
Assist in the roll out of legal risk policies and procedures, ensuring that senior management fully understands the scope and requirements of Legal and related policies and that all necessary dispensations are in place and current.
Assist in training and coaching all staff in the Legal Department in the finer details of their duties.
Help manage the process of engaging external counsel including effective instructions and negotiating appropriate fee structures for the transaction /case in question.
Assist with the structure and negotiation of investments.
Assist in reviewing progress of outstanding litigation, liaise with and manage external lawyers.
Help continuously to monitor compliance with statutory obligations and advise management accordingly.
Help prepare, review and modify contractual instruments to assist and support various business activities.
Prosecuting Bank’s cases in court.
KEY SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, ATTRIBUTES, AND QUALIFICATIONS
Sound knowledge of the laws of Ghana including the Banking Act, regulations and policies.
Demonstrate knowledge of, and experience with, laws dealing with government and/or commercial contract administration, particularly contract negotiation, preparation, and administration.
A good understanding of the corporate environment as well as the banking industry.
Strong interpersonal skills and a team player abilities
Excellent relationship management and communication skills.
Demonstrate success in managing and conducting a variety of litigation cases.
Show evidence of clear analytical thinking.
Team focus, managing performance including coaching skills.
Self-motivated, flexible, mature, articulate in speech and presentation.
A qualified lawyer with a minimum of five (5) years post qualification experience.
Litigation experience.
