The Varkey Foundation works with teachers and pupils in government schools across Ghana and Child Protection (CP) is central to the work of the Foundation. The Varkey Foundation has a Child Protection Policy and is undertaking a review of this alongside all associated systems and procedures to ensure it is in line with best practices and properly aligned with existing national policies as well as complying with specific donor requirements.

Job Description

Job Title: Child Protection Consultant

The Varkey Foundation is looking for a consultant to review and update (or develop where necessary) its entire Child Protection mechanisms. This assignment is expected to be undertaken between the middle of June and the end of August 2017.

Scope of Assignment

The assignment will involve a detailed review of all existing CP documents, including updating them to comply with donor requirements and align with national policies and best practices. The CP Consultant will train staff and key persons within the Varkey Foundation to be able to deal with CP matters. The CP consultant will also work with the Varkey Foundation’s education team to help design CP training for stakeholders in the communities we work with.

Required Qualifications

· An advanced university degree in child protection, social work, children’s rights, education or a related field;

· At least eight years of experience working in the field of child care and protection;

· Good knowledge of legal instruments regarding child rights, and child protection;

· Qualitative data collection and analysis experience, and/or performance monitoring and reporting experience

· Previous experience in developing training tools, delivering trainings and coaching;

· Strong knowledge and understanding of institutional donor requirements and familiar with NGO engagement;

· Knowledge of and experience in the Ghanaian context;

· English language fluency.

Desirable Qualifications

· Experience providing technical assistance to government child care and protection systems and/or policies;

· Proven experience in designing methodologies for research, writing short analytical papers on Child Protection issues, doing situation analysis or other types of research.

Duty Station

The preferred work location for the CP consultant will be the Varkey Foundation country office in Accra, although alternative working arrangements will be considered.
