In 2009, the membership of the West African Insurance Companies Association (WAICA) reconfirmed and agreed that a private reinsurance company should be established to provide additional reinsurance capacity in the sub region. Arrangements are well advanced for the establishment of the company and it is with this in mind that an experienced Chief Executive Officer is require to lead the company. The company will be based in Freetown, Sierra Leone with operating centres in Nigeria and Ghana and will enjoy many of the privileges enjoyed by the international organisations.
Job Description
To that end, the Board is requesting applications for the position of Chief Executive Officer.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall operational management of the entity and will report to the Board of Directors
Participation in the initial and future fund raising exercises
Do profitable reinsurance related business
Lead the organisation including staff in establishing the organisation as a credible financial entity
Establish management systems, structures and processes for the operation of the organisation
In consultation with the Board of Directors, recruit other senior members of staff
Establish and maintain contact with key clients and partners
Develop the organisational and operational model to guide the company’s officers in the conduct of their duties and functions
Engage other insurance companies and the various WAICA countries’ governments as necessary in the interests of the company
Manage professional and administrative staff
Formulate a detailed programme work plan, necessary tasks, define priorities and ensure implementation of program tasks by the team
Facilitation and monitoring of execution of strategic plan
Prepare quarterly report to the Board of Directors
With other team members draft articles, deliver presentations and speeches on reinsurance and related areas
Contract Period: The Contract will be for an initial period of three years which is renewable up to age 60 years
Required Skills or Experience
The prospective post holder:
Must possess a Masters degree in a field related to insurance or reinsurance
Must possess the ACII of London, UK or an equivalent professional qualification
Must possess at least 15 years post qualification experience of which at least 10 years must related to working in the insurance and reinsurance sector. Experience of working in Africa will be an advantage
Must be familiar with private sector donor and government requirements and working practices
Must have experience in and capacity to generate funds for the organisation
Experience in marketing and a good public relation will be an advantage
Must have held a very senior management position in an insurance or related company for at least 5 years
Must be between the ages of 40 and 54 years old
