Job Title: Data Engineer

If you consider yourself to be a logical and inquisitive individual with a proven ability in analysing transforming and interrogating large datasets, then this is a great opportunity for you to join our quantitative analysis team, or as we like to call them, the “QAT Squad”.
We need a talented developer with a strong grasp of R Programming methods. Most importantly, we want people who are looking to join an innovative start-up, offering great scope for career development, travel and future growth. In this key role, after an initial acclimatisation period, you’ll have the opportunity to further hone and demonstrate your R Programming skills, to support a dynamic database driven website. You will help to optimise the company’s development environment whilst working closely with the other teams within Walulel. As it’s a start-up, from day one you’ll be considered a key member of the team, and you’ll be in a role where your opinion always matters and your innovation always rewarded. You’ll also be involved in all aspects of the product development lifecycle. In addition, there will also be a training budget to facilitate your growth journey.
Are you the person we’re looking for?
As a R Programming, you will primarily responsible for helping to enhance our machine learning function using adaptable code. You will also be responsible for debugging problems and offering critical support to other members of the team.

As a minimum, we need people who have:
Experience of enterprise level experience of quantitative and qualitative data analysis using R;
Experience of problems solving and automated scripting using R;
Working understanding of machine learning structures;
Some experience with the following packages/libraries:
Tidyr
Dplyr
Stringr
RPostgresSQL
Xlsx
Ggplot
Apply World beating SQL skills, including database design, development and optimisation; and
Recent experience of working with APIs.

What else would be good?

Bachelors/Masters level (or higher) degree in STEM related field (or good level of work experience in a similar/related field);
Extensive hands-on R Programming experience with a viewable portfolio;
Knowledge of source control systems, such as Mercurial and/or GIT; and
Previous experience of working with Amazon Web Services, including EC2, S3, Cloud Front and Route 53.
