The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) was established by the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) in December 2005. As part of its strategic engagement in the promotion of democratization and good governance in Africa, OSIWA conceived the idea of establishing WACSI for the development of the capacity of civil society organizations (CSOs) in West Africa. The objectives of WACSI are primarily to serve as an independent resource center for civil society organisations in West Africa through knowledge production, policy generation, training and capacity development in the sub-region; to strengthen and promote the institutionalisation of CSOs, and enhance their skills and capacity to engage state and policy processes effectively.
Job Description
WACSI seeks committed, motivated and dynamic persons to join its team in contributing to enhancing civil society’s professionalism, efficiency and effectiveness in West Africa. Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified persons for the under listed position.
Provide support to program units and work closely with Program Officers:
Assist with the design and implementation of WACSI’s programs
Assist in building strong alliances and partnerships with CSOs in West Africa in implementing WACSI programs
Assist with the assessment, monitoring and evaluation of WACSI programmes
Assist with monitoring and training interns at the Institute
Manage WACSI’s expert database
Contribute to building WACSI’s communication portfolio
Other duties that may be required to enhance WACSI’s program development and implementation
Required Skills or Experience
A Bachelor’s degree in international relations,political science or other relevant social sciences
1-3 years relevant experience working in the Non-Governmental sector
Good communication, writing, organizational and project implementation skills in addition to good quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
Attention to detail and results oriented
Ability to multi-task and a team player
Ability to work without supervision; dynamic, self-motivated;
Fluency in English and French
