Maternal, Adolescent & Child Health (MatCH) is a division of the Wits Health Consortium under the School of Public Health of the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. MatCH is a consortium partner implementing the EQUIP project in Ghana. EQUIP is a grant to implement projects in five key solution areas – innovative models of ART service delivery; innovative approaches to support viral load scale-up; strategies and technologies to more effectively identify and link patients to treatment, foster ongoing adherence and retention; identify approaches that respond to the needs of key populations and promising “Test and Start” strategies.

MatCH is looking for the following staff to join their EQUIP Team based in Ghana.

Job Description

Job Title: Program Manager

Main Purpose of the Job

The incumbent will lead and supervise all technical aspects of programme design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of EQUIP-Ghana programmes. Provide oversight of programme administration and financial management of EQUIP programmes and supervise all EQUIP programme staff in country. S/He serves as main liaison and ensures continuous communication between EQUIP/MatCH HS -Ghana field operations and EQUIP-MatCH HS Headquarters in Durban. The Programme manager is responsible for the implementation of the EQUIP project in compliance with EQUIP mission, vision and strategic statements and guidelines.

Accra, Ghana.

Key Performance Areas

  • Planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the EQUIP project in Ghana.
  • Programme development and the writing of project proposals for extension of existing and/or establishment of new projects in Ghana.
  • Provide budget management, liaise with local legal entity and ensure efficient use of project resources.
  • Provide leadership to the clinical and monitoring and evaluation team in compliance with donor rules and regulations.
  • Develop and oversee completion of accurate and timely production of all required reports.
  • Establish and maintain regular contact with South African MatCH HS EQUIP staff, ministry staff, donors, collaborating partners and others relevant stakeholders.
  • Represent MatCH HS and EQUIP at relevant stakeholder meetings or conferences.
  • Attend to all staffing requirements including administration, recruitment, orientation supervision and management of staff.

Required minimum education and training

  • Relevant Post graduate degree/ diploma
  • Willingness to travel

Minimum work experience

  • 6 years’ relevant experience

Professional body registration

  • Registered with the relevant professional body

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities

  • Post-graduate degree in public health and diploma or extensive experience in HIV Management and health systems planning and management
  • Ghanaian citizen preferable
  • Demonstrable leadership, organizational, managerial and communication skills
  • Prior experience at a senior management level in a donor funded project
  • Experience in clinical management of HIV-infected patients
  • Ability to understand and manage team dynamics
  • Proactive agent influencing positive change with external stakeholders with the ability to develop and maintain relationships at all levels of the organization and partner organizations
  • Positive, energetic leader with an ability to adapt to complex situations, manage stress, deliver goals pro-actively
  • Organized with a thorough and accurate approach to work and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) in English
  • Excellent computer skills in MSOffice tools (MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel
