Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions, Inc. (Wood) is seeking Senior Advisors in the energy sector to guide and support various upcoming opportunities under the Power Africa Expansion Program. Projects will target advancing the energy sector, specifically as related to facilitating the financial closure of power transactions and strengthening the enabling environment for private sector investment in West Africa’s power sector, while addressing key constraints to such investment and strengthening the human and institutional capacity of key national power sector entities, including utilities, on-grid connections, and regional power trade. Service geographies will target Anglo and Franco-phone West Africa, including but not limited to countries such as Ghana, Liberia, Senegal and Cote d’Ivoire, and other select countries in the region including Cameroon, Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, and Togo. Projects will be performed in close coordination with US funding agencies and local stakeholder counterparts. Extensive in-country experience is highly preferred.

Job Description

Job Title: Power Sector Experts (Senior Advisory Level)

Specific technical areas of expertise sought include:

Power and Gas Systems Engineering
Generation, Transmission and Distribution Systems and Transactions
Demand-side Management and Energy Efficiency
Electric Utility Reform and Restructuring
Power Systems Planning & Monitoring
Private Sector Participation & Electricity Access
Legal & Regulatory
Renewable Energy Technologies
Tariffs & Power Economics
Environmental, Resettlement, Social & Gender Considerations
These positions will require periodic travel to in-country project sites as well as to client meetings in the USA. Wood’s senior-level Power Sector Experts will provide technical leadership, project management, and strategy and design services for the power sector; successful candidates will report administratively to Wood’s Home Office Project Manager.

Contract length: Up to five (5) years

Position Responsibilities

Serving as Wood’s senior staff member and liaison with both the client and the project team
Leading project teams in providing technical advisory services for the power sector while managing project staff
Reporting to Wood’s Home Office Project Manager on project progress, needs and issues
Supporting Wood’s Home Office staff in developing monthly project invoices

Skills / Qualifications

A minimum of 15 years of working experience in implementing energy projects, especially in electricity distribution, is desired
Preferably a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, with a Master’s degree in engineering management, economics or other similar fields
Extensive in-country technical work experience is highly preferred
Extensive knowledge of international best practices in power system planning, economics, business models, institutional assessment, contract procedures, project follow-up and risk management
Experience working and living in developing and/or post-conflict countries, with a preference for experience in the aforementioned countries
Ability to work in a team environment with multiple reporting priorities
