Job Description
Contract Duration: 2.5 years
Expected Start Date: March 1, 2011
Under the direction of the Project Co-ordinator, the Project Assistant provide support for the achievement of project objectives. As the Project Assistant, your role is to provide day to day support to the Project Coordinator to ensure efficient and effective planning and execution of the various project activities
Support the implementation of planned programme activities
Support training for DA officers in the around leadership and governance, management, negotiation and networking skills; resource mobilization and marketing; facilitation skills and techniques
Support training for AC officers on adult learning methodologies and techniques; facilitation skills; community mobilization techniques
Support training for teachers, staff and community members including Parent Teachers Associations (PTAs) and School Management Committees (SMCs)
Participate in on-site monitoring of planned programme activities
Ensuring effective and efficient communications with the Programme stakeholders at all levels
Provide guidance to Resource Persons or Volunteers as may be appropriate
Ensure that Programme equipment is used within clearly defined norms
Support the Project Coordinator in all activities related to the project

Required Skills or Experience
A degree in the social science, Development Studies or related degree
A minimum of three years in community development, education, water and sanitation, or multi-sectoral approaches
Experience in donor-funded project management
Experience in using community participatory development and PLA/PRA techniques
A capacity to work comfortably at all levels of society, especially at the community level
Previous experience in the implementation of a project related to gender equality, advocacy, and quality of education will be an advantage
Energy, drive, commitment to results and superior inter-personal skills
Proven integrity and excellent work ethics
Self-directed, strong ability to work under little supervision
Excellent organizational skills
Strong written, analytical, oral communication and computer skills
Capable of working under pressure
Results-oriented with the ability to meet deadlines
Good understanding of gender equality principles
