Ghana Recruiting [June 2013]"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Health Specialist:<\/strong>\u00a0This is a middle management position based in the Country Office, Accra.\u00a0The position reports directly to the Program Support Manager.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Purpose:<br \/>\n<\/strong>To lead and provide technical expertise in the design and management of all Health related programming within the organization.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop and manages the implementation of the Health Program Section of the Country Strategic Plan to achieve the set objectives in a quality and timely manner to support the fulfillment of the rights of children;<\/li>\n<li>Provides technical support to Program Unit offices (PUs) in the implementation of all health related programme activities;<\/li>\n<li>Provides technical support in building the capacity of Community\u00a0Based Organisations to enhance their capacity and improve their performance;<\/li>\n<li>Facilitates situational analysis, baseline studies, monitoring and evaluation of health activities in the PUs to identify current situations, future impacts and guide implementation;<\/li>\n<li>Liaises with Grants\u00a0Department in sourcing adequate funds both internally and externally for the implementation of health activities as outlined in the Country Strategic Plan;<\/li>\n<li>Develops training programmes, and facilitates training of staff and partners;<\/li>\n<li>Conducts regular visits to the PUs to provide technical guidance to staff and partners;<\/li>\n<li>Facilitates building partnerships, networks coalitions and alliances with other stakeholders;<\/li>\n<li>Ensures Gender and\u00a0Child Protection is mainstream in all health related programs;<\/li>\n<li>Conducts health related research to inform Plan&#8217;s advocacy strategy;<\/li>\n<li>Ensures an effective Health\u00a0Management Information System (HMIS) is in place to support knowledge Management;<\/li>\n<li>Participants in, and contributes to regional, sub-regional and national networks and alliances on partnership development and other health intiatives;<\/li>\n<li>Fulfills Plan&#8217;s Child Protection Policy at all times to protect children from all forms of abuses;<\/li>\n<li>Designs, appraises, manages, monitors as well as adapts and evaluates nutrition programs;<\/li>\n<li>Supports multisectorial and non-health sector approaches to tackling under nutritions in children under five.<span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Required Skills or Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Minimum Requirements:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A Masters degree in Public Health or a University Degree in\u00a0Health or Allied Science or equivalent;<\/li>\n<li>At least 5 years experience as a health staff;<\/li>\n<li>At least 5 years experience in the civil service would be an added advantage;<\/li>\n<li>At least 5 years experience in a similar role in an international organization similar to Plan<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes required for the positions:<br \/>\n<\/span>Knowledge:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledgeable of the health system in\u00a0Ghana;<\/li>\n<li>Seen as a source of health expertise, and proactive in sharing knowledge and advice;<\/li>\n<li>Strong knowledge of the Rights of the Child;<\/li>\n<li>Development of winning proposals for Grants funding;<\/li>\n<li>Strong competencies to plan, prioritize, and execute autonomously with a strategic approach;<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge and application of wider determinants of health;<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of key quantitative and qualitative research methods in health and nutrition in children;<\/li>\n<li>Knowledgeable about the linkage of agricultural and nutrition programming<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Skills:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Good analytical skills;<\/li>\n<li>Communicates clearly and effectively;<\/li>\n<li>Excellent report writing skills;<\/li>\n<li>Strong team-building and motivational skills;<\/li>\n<li>Strong negotiating, facilitating and influencing skills;<\/li>\n<li>Proficient in Microsoft applications and use of relevant software and other applications, e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet etc.<\/li>\n<li>Good teamplayer;<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work under pressure;<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work in a participative community approach<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Attitudes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop, motivates, coaches and promotes high performance by\u00a0Health staff and collaborators;<\/li>\n<li>Open to feedback and willing to try new approaches and processes;<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work within multiple teams at country and international levels;<\/li>\n<li>Promotes innovation and learning;<\/li>\n<li>Ability to facilitate participative processes that aim at decision making and agreement<span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>How To
