Overcoming the development challenges confronting African and developing countries calls not only for a commitment to social justice; it calls for sustained and systematic intellectual activism. For 15 years TwN-Africa has worked for economic and social equity within Africa and for an equitable place for Africa in the global order.<\/p>\n

With its allies and encouraged by intensifying civil society involvement, TWN-Africa is entering into an exciting new and even more challenging period of advocacy. TWN-Africa is a not-for-profit policy research and advocacy organization based in Ghana<\/p>\n

Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n

What we are looking for: Program Officer to undertake and advocacy in any of our 3 core program areas; gender and development, mining and development and trade and investment<\/p>\n

Major Tasks:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Analyze and interpret policies affecting the development of Africa and developing countries
\nPrepare and promote policies and strategies that respond to TWN-Africa’s stance on the development choices of African countries with particular attention to the interests of the marginalized
\nCollaborate with and mobilize support and actions of relevant constituents towards TWN-Africa campaign objectives
\nEngage policy making officials and institutions in actions targeted at attaining development friendly policy frameworks for African countries
\nUndertake or coordinate research of relevance to program goals
\nTerms: This is a permanent appointment based in Ghana and with attractive conditions
\nRequired Skills or Experience<\/p>\n

Academic Qualifications:<\/strong>
\nPost graduate degree in the social sciences including law and economics preferably in a development related area. A first degree with considerable relevant experience will be considered<\/p>\n

Professional Experience:<\/strong>
\n2 years (at least) professional work experience in development policy analysis, research and\/or advocacy with a focus on Africa development challenges and strategies<\/p>\n

Other Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Proven interest and commitment to social justice
\nKnowledge and understanding of political economy of African countries within the global context
\nUnderstanding of socio-economic and political factors underpinning development in Africa Communications and advocacy skills
\nAnalytical, quantitative and qualitative research skills
\nKnowledge and work experience in any of TWN-Africa’s thematic areas
\nAbility and readiness to travel frequently and at short notice
\nAbility to work in any official African language apart from English would be an advantage<\/p>\n
