We are the African non-violence women’s peace organisation established in June 2007 initially as the Africa Desk of the IFOR\/Women Peacemakers Programme (IFOR\/WPP); which is a programme of the Netherlands-based International Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR).We are “committed to promoting active non-violence peace building in Africa with women as key stakeholders.<\/p>\n

We seek to empower young African women peace activists to promote active non-violence and gender sensitivity with in the peace movement as a means of transforming unjust political, social and economic structures in Africa for sustainable peace. WPP-Africa currently has networks in 35 countries in Africa who are engaged in Active non- violence initiatives to transform societies for peace. Our head office is in Accra-Ghana and hosted by the West Africa Network for Peace building (WANEP). ‘<\/p>\n

Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n

WPP-Africa is currently seeking a Programme Office<\/strong>r to support our movement building process and inform the world about our work. This position is ideal for someone with strong leadership, programme design and management as well as organisational skills, curriculum development, training and facilitation skills. The Programme Officer shall be a person who is personally and professionally dedicated to advancing women peace and security in Africa and is highly motivated to supporting and strengthening our work. The incumbent will be responsible for carrying out programmes on time and to high standards in a highly dynamic and challenging environment. This, requires excellent communication skills, deep experience in net-working and advocacy, and a willingness to undertake extensive travel within Africa.<\/p>\n

The “Program Officer – Capacity Building” is supervised by and reports directly to the Africa Co-ordinator:<\/p>\n

The Programme Officer-Capacity Building will facilitate trainings and networking for the movement -building process, and provide technical support to all WPP-Africa networks in close collaboration with the Africa Coordinator as described in brief below.<\/p>\n

Movement building<\/strong><\/p>\n

Develop innovative strategies for out-reach and recruitment of movement members
\nBuild and enhance capacity of members to promote gender sensitive active non violence peacebuilding
\nIn charge of curriculum development, training, selection of effective trainers according to set criteria. Advertise for trainers and make sure the Training of Trainees happen on schedule
\nEnsure maintenance and sustainability of the movement
\nAssist with the organisation and facilitation of country level planning with movement members
\nEnsure that and country plans support long-term objectives and agreed strategies of WPP-Africa.
\nCommunications
\nEnsure effective communication amongst the members and networks
\nSupport the effective communications of Africa Office with sub-regional and country level networks and members. Proactively communicate findings and lessons from net-work activities to Africa office and relevant bodies and vice versa.
\nNetworking,Training and Technical support to movement
\nParticipate in curriculum and training design and approval for proposals for country level training. Support and help strengthen networking among members; Collect and proactively disseminate relevant lessons learnt and best practices
\nConvene and organise all trainings as necessary of net-work members<\/p>\n

Required Skills or Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n

The successful candidate will have:<\/strong><\/p>\n

A degree (preferably advanced degree) in humanities, social sciences, development studies, women studies, peace studies or equivalent
\nAt least 5 years experience working in peace building, working in conflict areas, gender, and women’s empowerment issues
\nDemonstrated ability to initiate and coordinate projects without supervision
\nFluent in speaking and writing English and French
\nStrong writing and analytical skills
\nStrong training and networking ability
\nProcess facilitation skills
\nCapacity to engage constructively with stakeholders at all levels of society
\nRespect for different cultural perspectives and approaches toward accomplishing shared goals
\nExtensively knowledge and understanding of civil society organisations in Africa
\nKnowledge and understanding of African political contexts
\nA demonstrated interest in building social and political leadership capacity
\nStrong experiences of working under multicultural conditions<\/p>\n
