Humjibre was chosen as the site for Ghana Health and Education Initiative because of its community clinic, presence of several schools and Clement Donkor, then Humjibre\u2019s assemblyman, who offered to locally spearhead the project.<\/p>\n<p>Project work began in 2003. GHEI started with two programs: one in reproductive health, and the Youth Education Program, which began with 16 students.<\/p>\n<p>From 2004 to 2007, GHEI continued to expand with the construction and opening of our Community Center, Humjibre Community Library and new classroom space. During this time, we also began ourScholarship Program and introduced the Career Opportunity Lecture Series.<br \/>\nIn 2008, a new malaria prevention intervention was employed in Soroano as part of a UCLA research study, including follow-up data collection. Community health workers were also hired in Soroano to promote and monitor bednet use. New housing for volunteers in Humjibre was constructed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title:\u00a0Education Program Coordinator<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>GHEI is recruiting for an Education Program Coordinator to be based in Humjibre, Ghana.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Start Date<\/strong>: November\/December 2016<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duration<\/strong>: 13-24 months<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Summary<\/strong>:<br \/>\nThe Education Program Coordinator (EPC) manages a wide range of GHEI educational programming in coordination with the local Education Program Manager (EPM)\/Assistant Country Director (ACD). In addition to management duties, the EPC will continue to build the capacity of the EPM\/ACD, with the ultimate goal of combining the EPC and EPM duties into a single, locally staffed position. Additional duties may also include research activities, grant proposal writing, curriculum development and running training sessions.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Responsibilities<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Management &amp; Administration<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In collaboration with the EPM\/ACD:<\/li>\n<li>Manage and support the education team.<\/li>\n<li>Work with the EPM\/ACD to assess, revise and record program strategies, by completing the Annual Operational Plans (AOPs) and program protocols.<\/li>\n<li>Generate district reports for internal use, funders, and local government agencies.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain and update program-specific databases to track program indicators.<\/li>\n<li>Create and monitor budgets and expenses for all education programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Programming &amp; Development<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conduct relevant research in the community to inform program planning and development.<\/li>\n<li>Continue to make girls\u2019 education a priority, building and strengthening existing programs, and developing new initiatives, as required and appropriate.<\/li>\n<li>Manage, coordinate, train and implement the new Mother Mentor Program, in collaboration with the health and education teams, to promote stimulation and development in children.<\/li>\n<li>Monitor and evaluate all education programs with the EPM\/ACD and education team.<\/li>\n<li>Continually assess and revise curricula for the education programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Teaching &amp; Training<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Improve quality of teaching by providing relevant training and guided support.<\/li>\n<li>Conduct teacher evaluations, providing comprehensive feedback and continuous monitoring.<\/li>\n<li>Teach for the Youth Education Program (YEP).<\/li>\n<li>Work with EPM\/ACD and Country Director to design a system to identify, train and develop staff, as well as volunteers in the community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Collaboration &amp; Networking<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Write, edit and\/or revise grant proposals, and collaborate with Development Director to identify needs and key priorities.<\/li>\n<li>Build support amongst businesses and organizations to encourage financial contributions and support for educational projects.<\/li>\n<li>Communicate and network with the District Assembly Office, specifically education personnel responsible for school welfare, to build organizational knowledge of and communication lines with projects in the district and opportunities for support and funding, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Library<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Manage and run the library, working closely with the Librarian.<\/li>\n<li>Mentor and support the GHEI Librarian, his development, and the successful running of the library.<\/li>\n<li>Schedule a series of smaller events at the library, such as educational movie nights and quizzes, and work with the librarian on marketing, coordinating and planning for events.<\/li>\n<li>In coordination with the librarian and EPM\/ACD, improve and develop new monitoring tools for the library (e.g. track attendance to help identify impact).<\/li>\n<li>Support the Librarian with the Soroano Book Box Project, while still seeking opportunities to build a library for this neighboring community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Qualifications<br \/>\n<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor\u2019s Degree, preferably a Masters in a related field (Education, International<\/li>\n<li>Development, Non-Profit Management).<\/li>\n<li>At least 1 year of project management experience, preferably in a developing country.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with logic models and program design.<\/li>\n<li>Experience in teaching, curriculum design, and rubrics.<\/li>\n<li>Experience in conducting research.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge and experience in proposal writing.<\/li>\n<li>Familiarity with budgets and the tracking of expenditures.<\/li>\n<li>Proficient in MS Office (specifically Word, Powerpoint and Excel)<\/li>\n<li>Ability to live and work in a resource-poor environment with limited internet access, intermittent power outages, and restricted diet.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated cross-cultural awareness and communication skills.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent spoken and written English.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with all stakeholders in Ghana and internationally-based staff.<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to the highest professional standards, ethics and values.<\/li>\n<li>Resilient, patient, flexible, and willing to perform a wide variety of tasks as they arise.<\/li>\n<li>A collaborative-minded, team player who is invested in the growth of the EPM\/ACD and staff.<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to building local capacity and working within established local systems, structures, and cultural norms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Compensation<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Education Program Coordinator receives a local salary equivalent to ~$160 USD\/month. Free housing, electricity, all business related travel, in-country work permits and Visas are also paid for by GHEI.
