China International Water & Electric Corporation (CWE in abbreviation), is a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) and the earliest state-owned enterprise in Chinese hydropower industry to participate in international economic cooperation. The present company name was adopted in 1983; nevertheless, the history of CWE traces back to more than half a century ago when it was a foreign aid unit within the Ministry of Water Conservancy and Electric Power of P. R. China.<\/p>\n
Nowadays, CWE has been acknowledged as a famous brand in fields of international contracting and small-to-medium hydropower investment. Many a project undertaken or developed by CWE was imprinted in the world\u2019s water and hydropower construction history, among which there are dams symbolizing friendships between nations, projects hailed as \u201cThree Gorges\u201d in the project-host countries, and large scale hydraulic complexes regarded as beacons of international cooperation.<\/p>\n
With prominent achievements in its main business of water and hydropower and rich experience in other infrastructure projects including transmission and transformation, roads and bridges, port dredging, etc., CWE has undertaken projects in over 80 countries and regions and is running business units in 31 countries and regions in Asia, Africa, Europe, and America. In recent decade, CWE has successfully executed the Merowe Dam Project in the Sudan, Nam Lik 1-2 Hydropower Project in Laos, Kozjak Hydroelectric Project in Macedonia, Moinak Hydropower Project in Kazakhstan, Dam Complex of Upper Atbara Project in the Sudan, Wacha-Maji Road Upgrading Project in Ethiopia, Rural Electrification Project in Ghana, Draa Diss and Mahouane Barrage Projects in Algeria, Berrechid-Ben Ahmed Expressway Project in Morocco, Toachi-Pilaton Hydropower Project in Ecuador among other hydropower and infrastructure projects. In 2015, its business enjoyed steady growth, with the Kaleta Hydroelectric Project in Guinea and the Nam Ngiep 2 Hydropower Project in Laos put into operation ahead of schedule. Meanwhile, it also carried out many excellent works such as the Canar Flood Control Project in Ecuador and the Isimba Hydropower Project in Ugada. To date, its total number of employees has exceeded 20,000, of which 75% are local employees.<\/p>\n
