Yet there are 740 million illiterate people in this world and 250 million children of primary school age who lack basic reading and writing skills (UNESCO). Books are necessary for the development of these skills, and still 50% of schools in Africa have few or no books at all<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title:\u00a0Operations Volunteer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The short-term position involves Kindle e-reader production set-up, logistics and deployment of e-readers to schools and libraries in Africa. The position is based in our Operations Centre in Ghana, Accra, a fun place to work and learn about using technology to transform reading in the developing world. Successful team members will be assigned increased responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hours:<\/strong> Not more than 40 hours per week<\/p>\n<p><strong>Starting:<\/strong> Immediately<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Operations Volunteer will assist in e-reader and tablet processing from procurement and preparation to deployment to program schools with a strong focus on increasing efficiencies and bringing the process to scale. Specific tasks include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Processing e-readers<\/li>\n<li>Packaging shipments<\/li>\n<li>Troubleshooting technical issues during e-reader processing<\/li>\n<li>Moving boxes occasionally<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Skills &amp; Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor\u2019s Degree or HND with a background in engineering, science or other relevant fields<\/li>\n<li>Strong interest in working in the technology space<\/li>\n<li>A high degree of attention to detail, combined with good analytical thinking skills<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to perform activities that involve \u201crolling up the sleeves,\u201d such as packaging and moving boxes<\/li>\n<li>Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel<\/li>\n<li>Passionate about education and the mission of Worldreader and enjoys working in a team environment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How to Apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To apply, please follow these steps carefully:<br \/>\nSubmit your resume\/curriculum vitae (in PDFs only) and your availability to <strong>ghanahr@worldreader.org<\/strong><br \/>\nSend your application in an email with the subject<strong> \u201cOperations Volunteer &#8211; Ghana\u201d<\/strong> to <strong>ghanahr@worldreader.org<\/strong> as early as possible.<\/p>\n<p>Applications should be submitted not later than <strong>30th September 2016.<\/strong><br \/>\nDue to the volume of applications however, only candidates shortlisted for interview will be contacted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Worldreader is on a mission to bring digital books to every child and her family, so that they can improve their lives.
