Safi Sana has started the design and commissioning of a large scale waste-to-energy\/ bio-fertilizer plant in Ashaiman. This plant has become operational in the third quarter of 2016 and will treat 25 tonnes of waste daily from public toilets and organic waste collection points. The plant will produce a bio-fertilizer for the local market and generate power for the national power grid. It is expected that this model will be replicated in other areas in Ghana in the coming years. Generally the project is designed to push the frontiers of innovation in the area of waste treatment\/ reuse in Ghana and its success could influence future policy and practice regarding municipal waste treatment and reuse in Ghana.<\/p>\n
