The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) works with partners to enhance crop quality and productivity, reduce producer and consumer risks, and generate wealth from agriculture, with the ultimate goals of reducing hunger, malnutrition, and poverty. IITA’s research-for-development (R4D) focuses on addressing the development needs of tropical countries. The institute was established in 1967 and is headquartered in Ibadan, Nigeria, with several research stations across Africa. IITA is a nonprofit organization governed by a Board of Trustees, supported by several countries and the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).<\/p>\n

IITA Ghana is seeking research staff to work on the Africa Research in sustainable intensification for the next generation (Africa RISING) project in the 3 northern regions<\/p>\n

Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n

Job Title: Research Associate – Nutrition and Post-Harvest Technology<\/strong><\/p>\n

Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 Collect, analyze and summarize a broad range of socio-economic data on on-station and on-farm trials
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 Assist with the creation of research for development platforms for action research
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 Perform economic analysis of improved technologies
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 Assist with adoption and impact studies
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 Prepare technical and non-technical reports
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 Supervise and train research technicians on appropriate data collection
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 Assist with organizing workshops, meetings and monitoring tours
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 Assist with out-scaling and scaling-up of projects outputs
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 Establish and maintain contacts with farmers and relevant stakeholders
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 Perform any other official duties assigned by supervisor<\/p>\n

Qualification Required & Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 BSc in Food Science, Nutrition, Entomology, Post-harvest technology
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 MSc in Post-Harvest Science \/ Technology from a recognised university<\/p>\n

Required Skills and Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 A minimum of 2 to 3 years of post-qualification research experience
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 Demonstrated skills in data collection and analysis
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 Excellent computer skills and knowledge of statistical packages for data analysis
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 Demonstrated skills in scientific writing
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 Good writing and verbal communication skills in English and other local languages in Northern Ghana.<\/p>\n

Location:<\/strong> Navorongo or Bolgatanga – Upper East Region with field work travels to project sites in Upper West and Northern regions<\/p>\n
