It was established as a Technical Institute with the primary objective of providing pre-technical education. By 1972, the institute had made tremendous progress in upgrading of the courses offered. Consequently the pre-technical programmes gave way to courses in the Engineering and Vocational fields, e.g. Basic Engineering, Agricultural and Mechanical Engineering, Building Technology and Business Education.<\/p>\n<p>In 1986, the Institute became a Polytechnic. It however continued to operate as second cycle institution, until 1993 when the Polytechnic was upgraded to a fully-fledged tertiary institution by the enactment of PNDC Law 321 and charged with the responsibility of training students in the technical and vocational skills to the Higher National Diploma [HND] level. Subsequently, in 2007, Polytechnics were given the mandate by the Polytechnics Act 745 to award their own degrees to the highest level.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: University Librarian<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Specific Roles:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The University Librarian is the administrative head of the University Library and shall be responsible to the vice chancellor through the Pro- Vice-Chancellor for the administration and coordination of all library\u00a0services in the university. He\/she shall provide professional\/: administrative leadership needed for the smooth operation of the library;\u00a0design and implement an overall strategic plan for the development of the university library, among other roles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Required Skills or Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The candidate seeking appointment as university librarian must possess the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A research Master\u2019s degree in Library\/Information Studies or any other related field. Possession of a PhD in Library\/ Information Studies is an added advantage. He\/she<\/li>\n<li>Candidates must have served as a Deputy Librarian for at least two (2) years in a university or a comparable institution and have a good record of publications.<\/li>\n<li>Senior Assistant Librarians with at least six (6) years post-qualification- experience and a good publication record are also eligible to apply.<\/li>\n<li>Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of all aspects of Library Management and related professional skills, ability to transform a\u00a0traditional Library into a modem one driven by ICT facilities and systems, as well as provide effective leadership for a University Library and departmental Libraries.<\/li>\n<li>Candidate must be a member of relevant professional bodies.<\/li>\n<li>The position of Librarian is tenured.<\/li>\n<li>The successful candidate is expected to assume office by January, 2017.<\/li>\n<li>Applicants must, therefore, be able to serve at least a full-term of four (4) years before reaching\u00a0compulsory retirement age of sixty (60) years<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How to Apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Interested candidates who meet the above criteria should forward their application letter, CV, copies of academic and professional certificates and transcripts of academic records to<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Secretary of the Search Committee<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>C\/o The Registrar, <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Ho Technical University, <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Box HP 217, <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Ho &#8211; Ghana.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The origin of the Polytechnic goes back to 1968.
