{"id":20510,"date":"2016-11-28T14:23:11","date_gmt":"2016-11-28T14:23:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/joblistghana.com\/?p=20510"},"modified":"2016-11-28T14:23:11","modified_gmt":"2016-11-28T14:23:11","slug":"jhpiego-deputy-director","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/joblistghana.com\/jhpiego-deputy-director.html","title":{"rendered":"Jhpiego: Deputy Director"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jhpiego, an internationally recognized non-governmental organization focused on improving the health of women and families internationally and in Ghana is seeking qualified, skilled and highly motivated candidate to fill the position of<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Deputy Director<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reports to:\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Country Director, Ghana<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Summary<\/strong><br \/>\nWorking closely with the Ghana Country Director, the Deputy Director provides high level managerial oversight and guidance to Ghana MCSP programs. \u00a0Responsibilities include supervising program leaders, overseeing annual program work planning, tracking implementation progress, reporting on project activities, liaising with Jhpiego\/Baltimore and MCSP in Washington on key programs, representing Jhpiego to donors and partners, and ensuring strong management process and tools are in place and used by projects and program staff of the Jhpiego Ghana Office.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Director will be part of the Senior Management Team (SMT) thereby contributing to the overall strategy and management of the Jhpiego\/Ghana Country Office and any relevant new program development efforts. The Deputy Director also works closely with Team Leaders and program implementation teams to ensure project resources (e.g. human, financial and material) are applied appropriately and in compliance with donor, Jhpiego, and local country requirements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Strategy:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide programmatic leadership and set priorities for the programs in collaboration with the Country Director and Program Teams<\/li>\n<li>Provide programmatic leadership for and oversee, in coordination with the Ghana Country Director, the strategic planning of activities in support of the Jhpiego\/Ghana program goals and objectives including the determination of program priorities and appropriate technical initiatives<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Management:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Implement management processes and tools to ensure that Jhpiego\/Ghana programs are delivered on time, on scope, and on budget. Including working with finance office to review financial data and monitoring and evaluation teams to review data for decision making.<\/li>\n<li>Provide technical oversight and assistance to program managers and consultants that facilitate their ability to develop and implement technically-sound interventions while building their capacity to do the same<\/li>\n<li>Guide the analysis, synthesis and reporting of project outputs and results in close collaboration with the Monitoring and Evaluation Team, and ensure incorporation of lessons learned into ongoing activity tasks<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate planning of all human, material and financial resources to ensure successful implementation of the assigned Jhpiego\/Ghana programs<\/li>\n<li>Work closely with the Finance team to monitor\/track expenditures, and ensure provision of financial analysis to guide\/support programmatic decisions.<\/li>\n<li>Delegate appropriately<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Communication:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep relevant staff in Baltimore and Washington DC informed of successes, challenges and lessons learned in implementation of programs<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate the development and dissemination of materials related to further the achievement of all Jhpiego\/Ghana programs<\/li>\n<li>Provide updates on the progress made, direction, approaches and successes of programs to the County Director and appropriate program and Technical Directors in Baltimore<\/li>\n<li>Write up program experiences to share within Jhpiego and with a wider audience<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Supervision:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Guide, mentor, support, supervise and manage a team of highly qualified staff and align their efforts in concert with program goals<\/li>\n<li>Motivate assigned staff and consultants<\/li>\n<li>Participate in recruitment of new staff as needed<\/li>\n<li>Supervise staff<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Relationship Building and New Program Development:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Represent Jhpiego interests in public and professional circles through meetings, conferences and presentations<\/li>\n<li>Cultivate strategic relationships with other donors, team members, global and regional institutions, private sector entities, government ministries and other stakeholders for the smooth implementation of project activities<\/li>\n<li>Promote Jhpiego business development opportunities in Ghana through relationships with in-country partners, donors and the business community<\/li>\n<li>In coordination with the Country Director contribute to proposal management, design, writing, and editing<\/li>\n<li>Conduct independent high-level interactions with donors, including USAID, private corporations and foundations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>NOTE: \u00a0<\/strong>All staff members of Jhpiego, regardless of the level of their responsibilities are expected to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Model the Jhpiego mission and values<\/li>\n<li>Participate in the business development process<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to the knowledge sharing and transfer process<\/li>\n<li>Make responsible decisions that result in time and cost containment and clear accountability<\/li>\n<li>Participate in multiple teams, adopt team spirit, take responsibility for action items assigned and provide feedback as needed<\/li>\n<li>Multitask, be able to manage competing priorities and be able to prioritize in order to meet program and\/or organizational objectives<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Required Skills or Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Advanced degree in public health or management degree<\/li>\n<li>8+ years\u2019 senior level program management experience in international public health programs<\/li>\n<li>5+ years\u2019 senior level working relationship with international donor agencies\u2019 programs and policies, particularly USAID<\/li>\n<li>Extensive knowledge of the international health program development field<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated significant knowledge of one or more of the following areas: reproductive health (e.g. maternal health, family planning), child health, malaria or HIV\/AIDS<\/li>\n<li>Management, training or clinical background in reproductive health, child health, malaria or HIV\/AIDS preferred<\/li>\n<li>Experience working in teams and leading and working with multi-cultural and multi-organizational staff<\/li>\n<li>First-hand experience in one or more of the following areas: introduction or strengthening of health services, health provider training, performance improvement, or supervision<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge and understanding of the policies of major US donor agencies<\/li>\n<li>Strong business development skills, including proposal writing and negotiating with partner organizations<\/li>\n<li>Capacity for analyzing technical problems and issues which impede efforts to provide improved health care to populations; developing technical solutions to these problems\/issues and assisting in the design of operational research which could yield appropriate solutions to these problems\/issues<\/li>\n<li>Proven leadership, management and supervisory skills<\/li>\n<li>Excellent verbal, written communications and presentation skills<\/li>\n<li>Excellent skills in facilitation, team building and coordination<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform<\/li>\n<li>Ability to develop productive working relationships with counterparts in multi-cultural groups and other agencies globally<\/li>\n<li>Ability to provide technical leadership to develop innovative country programs<\/li>\n<li>Ability to communicate effectively, instilling trust and confidence<\/li>\n<li>Experience working within the Ghana health system and the devolved system of government<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How to Apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please apply with a cover letter and detailed CV including three referees.
