Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n Job Title: Mine Superintendent-Subika Underground<\/strong><\/p>\n DIMENSIONS: Responsible for the direction, planning and coordination of all Underground Mining Operations and Contracting activities. Direct report will be the Owners superintendents and the prime mining contractors operations manager.<\/p>\n Operations\/Capital Budget: $20M \u2013 $30Mpa Personnel Budget: 2-3 (Newmont)<\/p>\n Operating Cost\/Budget\/Production:<\/p>\n POSITIONS DIRECTLY SUPERVISED: 2<\/strong><\/p>\n POSITIONS INDIRECTLY SUPERVISED: 300 (INCLUDING CONTRACTORS)<\/strong><\/p>\n PURPOSE:<\/strong><\/p>\n Accountability for all aspects of the Subika underground operations and maintenance and bringing the first Newmont underground mine through execution phase and into commercial production.<\/p>\n ESSENTIAL DUTIES:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2022 Carry out all duties in accordance with the management system, to improve safety performance and maintain safe and efficient functioning of the underground mine. Work to eliminate all workplace injuries and illness through a focus on behaviors, leadership and risk management.<\/p>\n \u2022 Manage the Subika Underground contractor and sub-contractors, holding them accountable to safety and production targets.<\/p>\n \u2022 Set mining KPI targets and identify and act on variances to achieve budget.<\/p>\n \u2022 Seek out, lead and apply underground best practices and continuous improvements practices to deliver sustainable cost, efficiency and personnel health and wellness improvements.<\/p>\n \u2022 Engage with construction manager and support project director to achieve business objectives.<\/p>\n \u2022 Where required or appropriate represents the Company in dealings with external agencies, contractors, consultants and suppliers.<\/p>\n \u2022 Effectively interface with support functions and other organizations to facilitate the coordination and execution of work to optimize underground mining and maintenance.<\/p>\n \u2022 Develop and implement Mine Operating Systems to manage the subika underground and complete business readiness activities to transition from Projects to Operations.<\/p>\n \u2022 Identify and implement controls for project, operations and H&S risks.<\/p>\n Become familiar with and strictly adhere to Newmont\u2019s Health, Safety and Environmental standards. Act as a role model in complying with and supporting these standards and practices.<\/p>\n The above duties and responsibilities are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive.<\/p>\n WORKING CONDITIONS:<\/p>\n ENVIRONMENTAL WORK CONDITION:<\/p>\n \u2022 Combination of office and UG mining conditions.<\/p>\n \u2022 Moist wet surfaces with section of continuous water fall.<\/p>\n \u2022 Potential for extreme dust particles and high heat\/humidity.<\/p>\n \u2022 Noise exposure within the requirements for earplugs or\/and ear muffs.<\/p>\n \u2022 Dark environment which requires personal attachment of lit head gear.<\/p>\n \u2022 Underground conditions include steep decline with section of uneven terrain.<\/p>\n \u2022 Non-ventilated areas with asphyxiating gaseous environments.<\/p>\n \u2022 Working with corrosive chemicals<\/p>\n PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, WORKING CONDITIONS, AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS [HSLP]:<\/p>\n Employee must be able to perform and work under the following conditions:<\/p>\n \u2022 Operate small hand-held tools, such as saws, hammers weighing up to 5 lbs. Operate underground and surface vehicles on haulage roads including a pre-operational inspection, mounting and dismounting vehicle, pushing and pulling knobs and levers, and turning steering wheels.<\/p>\n \u2022 Operate and hold a radio with sufficient voice and hearing to carry on a conversation for the purpose of following work assignments and providing feedback.<\/p>\n \u2022 Read, comprehend, interpret and learn literature, Material Safety Data Sheets MSDS, labels on products, warning signs, instructional manuals and numbers on monitors and gauges, to prevent loss of personnel, property and process.<\/p>\n \u2022 Wear personal protective equipment including hard hat, steel toe shoes, safety glasses, respirators, wet suits, earplugs, gloves, head lamp or any other equipment to perform duties safely.<\/p>\n \u2022 Walk and stand on uneven and wet surfaces.<\/p>\n TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:<\/strong><\/p>\n Knowledge:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2022 A University or College degree in Mining Engineering or related field or equivalent operations experience.<\/p>\n \u2022 Ghanaian Underground Mine Manager Regulations and Certification.<\/p>\n Experience:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2022 15 years of experience in underground mining.
