Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n

Is seeking qualified candidates to fill a senior position to be based in the CRS Tamale Office. The incumbent will report to the CRS Head of Programmes.<\/p>\n

Purpose:<\/strong> The WASH Co-ordinator will be responsible for ensuring that CRS Ghana’s WASH activities are technically sound and impact positively on the lives of Ghanaian populations CRS serves.<\/p>\n

This position does not oly require a high technical level in water, sanitation and hygiene system and service delivery but also leadership, co-ordination skills and familiarity with Sustainable Livelihood models and gender mainstreaming.<\/p>\n

Technical Support:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Co-ordinate the Wat\/San Unit at CRS Ghana and maintain overall responsibility for technical oversight of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) activities
\nProvide technical oversight and co-ordination of construction and other activities of the W.A.T.E.R funded infrastructure and hygiene
\nAssist the Head of Programs in the planning, development and periodic appraisals of the Agency’s short and long term development programs and project proposals in compliance with the Agency’s standards and formats, and in accordance with identified needs
\nLead in the development, revisions and implementation of PRA\/PLA. PHAST, SHEP and WASH protocols, materials and methodologies, to promote community problem solving and decision-making concerning health, hygiene and sanitation issues
\nIntegrate public health concepts into water, sanitation and hygiene activities and ensure close collaboration with health and other sectors, including hygiene promotion and community mobilisation
\nEnsure gender integration in the design and implementation of projects, that WATSAN programming is consistent with the Sustainable Livelihood Approach and integrates environmental considerations
\nManage the CRS \/ Ghana advocacy activities regarding the WATSAN sector within the NGO community and government departments; Represent CRS\/Ghana at water and sanitation fora, and technical sessions
\nIdentify, negotiate and manage contracts with water and sanitation and service delivery agencies to ensure for construction of technically sound water systems and other infrastructure
\nStrategic & Programme Development: Lead the identification, research and development of new business opportunities in the health sector for CRS Ghana
\nProvide technical leadership to the development of CRS\/Ghana’s “water, sanitation and hygiene”, including multiple uses of water in an environmentally sustainable way
\nProvide technical support in the development and construction of technically sound, appropriate and innovative water systems and cost-effective , sanitation and hygiene programmes
\nCo-ordinate with M&E Manager to determine an optimal monitoring strategy for the sector; Health and WATSAN teams in order to optimise hygiene promotion effectiveness
\nParticipate in the regional technical reviews of water and sanitation proposals and provide technical feedback and guidance for possible innovations
\nIdentify potential linkages with research and funding institutions in the WATSAN sector
\nInitiate operations research to document and draw lessons learned from CRS’ experience in the WASH sector and disseminate to partners and other CRS CPs and Agency support staff
\nTravel: Position will be based in CRS sub office in Tamale with frequent travel to Accra and to other regions of Ghana – may be transferred to Accra in the future<\/p>\n

Salary: Commensurate with experience<\/p>\n

Required Skills or Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n

Postgraduate\/specialised training in water, sanitation and hygiene, water resources management or other related discipline or specialised training in hydrogeology, agricultural or civil engineering field in water resources management or other related discipline
\nMinimum of 5 (five) years professional experience in development projects planning, infrastructure, monitoring and evaluation, at a supervisory level
\nProven experience in budgeting and budget management
\nStrong analytical and communication skills and ability to multitask under pressure and yet remain effective and productive
\nExcellent interpersonal skills; abiliy to work with partners and lead a team
\nExcellent oral and written communication skills, cultural sensitivity, ability to work with people, judgment and commitment to the Agency’s mission
\nStrong computer skills (Word, Excel, Internet, etc)
\nWillingness to travel in-country and internationally as required by the Agency
\nDesirable:
\nExperience in health education, community mobilisation, hygiene and sanitation campaigns will be an added advantage
\nProfessional Proficiency in French<\/p>\n
