The Regional Office for Africa (RAF) is responsible for leading FAO\u2019s response to regional priorities for food security, agriculture and rural development through the identification, planning and implementation of FAO\u2019s priority activities in the region.<\/p>\n

Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n

Job Title: Fishery And Agriculture Officer (Post Harvest)<\/strong><\/p>\n

It ensures a multidisciplinary approach to programmes, identifies priority areas of action for the Organization in the region and, in collaboration with the Regional Programme Leader (RPL) and Strategic Programme Teams, as well as departments and divisions at headquarters, develops, promotes and oversees FAO\u2019s strategic response to regional priorities. RAF also advises on the incorporation of regional priorities into the Organization\u2019s Programme of Work and Budget and implements approved<\/p>\n

RAF develops and maintains relations with region-wide institutions including the Regional Economic Integration Organizations (REIOs).The Regional Office supports regional policy<\/p>\n

The Regional Office supports regional policy dialogue on food security, agriculture and rural development issues, facilitates the emergence of
\nregional partnerships, and supports capacity development and resource mobilization for food security, agriculture and rural development in the region.
\nThe post is located in the RAF Office, Accra, Ghana.<\/p>\n

Reporting Lines<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Fishery and Aquaculture Officer reports to the Senior Fisheries Officer, RAF.<\/p>\n

Technical Focus<\/strong><\/p>\n

Support the identification, formulation and implementation of fisheries post-harvest projects and programmes in the region.<\/p>\n

Key Results<\/strong><\/p>\n

Research, technical analysis, and project related services to support the delivery of programme projects, products, and services.<\/p>\n

Key Functions<\/strong><\/p>\n

Researches and analyses technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional, and technology related information, data and statistics and\/or related policy issues to support the delivery of programme projects, products and services;
\nProduces a variety of technical information, data, statistics and reports as well as input for technical documents and web pages;
\nProvides technical support\/analysis to various assessments, studies and initiatives and provides technical backstopping to field projects;
\nCollaborates in the development of improved\/updated tools, systems, processes, and databases;
\nParticipates in multidisciplinary teams, and\/or leads working groups\/teams collaborates with other departments and agencies on work groups and committees and promotes best practices;
\nCollaborates in, provides technical backstopping to and ensures the quality\/effectiveness of capacity development activities aimed at member countries such as policy support, organizational development and individual learning events including preparation of related information, learning materials, on-line tools;
\nPromotes knowledge sharing and best practices at international meetings and conferences and influences partners in stakeholder consultations;
\nSupports resource mobilization activities in collaboration with the RPL and the Resource Mobilization Division (TCS) and in line with FAO\u2019s Corporate Strategy.<\/p>\n

Specific Functions<\/strong><\/p>\n

Participates in the design and implementation of programmes, projects and activities related to post harvest fisheries and value addition;
\nCollects, analyses and disseminates information on the technology, safety and quality of fish for human consumption;
\nAssists member countries in developing marketing and promotion strategies for fisheries products;
\nDevelops and maintains contacts with institutions dealing with fish processing technology, safety and quality;
\nCoordinates and follows up on activities to reduce post-harvest losses within the fisheries sector;
\nCollaborates in technical backstopping of post-harvest related field projects;
\nPromotes knowledge sharing and best practices in fisheries post-harvest management.<\/p>\n

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING<\/strong><\/p>\n

Minimum Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n

Advanced university degree in food engineering, food technology or other related fields
\nFive years of relevant experience in fish processing technology, fishery products safety and quality or related field<\/p>\n

Working knowledge of English and French.<\/p>\n

Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions is desirable
\nExtent and relevance of experience and knowledge in planning and supervising work related to fish processing technologies, safety, quality and nutrition
\nExtent and relevance of experience in providing relevant technical advice on fish processing technology, safety and quality
\nDepth of familiarity with fisheries sector in developing countries, and extent and relevance of experience with fish marketing and promotion strategies
\nExtent and relevance of experience in the analysis and formulation of policies and programmes for sustainability improvement in fisheries sector
\nAbility to analyze complex fisheries issues from a farmer\u2019s point of view<\/p>\n
