Aspire Food Group is a social enterprise dedicated to the sustainable practice of farming edible insects. In Ghana, Aspire seeks to farm locally desired insects as a way to address food insecurity. Aspire farms the palm weevil larvae, a local delicacy that has been traditionally harvested. In addition, Aspire Ghana has also taught several hundred farmers in Southern and Central Ghana to be able to farm their own larva as a source of household animal protein and as an opportunity for increased income. Aspire Ghana seeks to rapidly scale its production, co-develop
\npackaged products, take advantage of export opportunities to other West African countries, support its network of farmers to scale their production and to advance research on the palm weevil larva.<\/p>\n

Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n

Position: Field Operations Associate<\/strong><\/p>\n

Role Description: <\/strong><\/p>\n

Aspire Food Group Ghana is looking for a driven, innovative, adaptable individual to drive the growth of our palm weevil larvae rearing community empowerment program in Kumasi,
\nGhana (and potentially outside of Kumasi as we expand).<\/p>\n

The Field Operations Associate\u2019s role is to support the improvement and growth of the current program to better the livelihoods of farmers
\nthrough increases in income and access to animal protein.<\/p>\n

The Operations Associate will:<\/p>\n

coordinate the program, analyze data, research and write grant proposals and monitor the program to ensure progress is being made. The Associate will become an expert trainer in palm weevil larva farming and will be creative in suggesting new innovations to the program based on sound logic.
\nThe Field Operations Associate must be comfortable working in farm-like conditions. The Associate would be present in our field communities 5-20% of the time.
\nThe remaining the time would be spent at Aspire headquarters on KNUST Campus in Kumasi working on other initiatives. The Associate will also have to be flexible and must be comfortable with logistical and administrative tasks that serve the organization\u2019s goals overall. We are looking to fill this position ASAP.<\/p>\n

Please note that no financial support will be provided for lodging or moving.<\/p>\n

Tasks\/duties:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Coordinate palm weevil larvae rearing community empowerment program and special projects.
\nAnalyze data on participant and field activity.
\nExecute monitoring and evaluation activities.
\nCompute key performance indicators.<\/p>\n

Research and write high-quality grant funding proposals.
\nWrite high-quality, detailed reports on progress in the field.
\nBecome an expert in palm weevil rearing techniques.
\nDevelop and update training materials (training of participants and training of trainers).
\nTrain farmers when required.
\nFind innovative ways to improve the organization\u2019s approach to field work
\nSupport management with strategic planning.
\nPut together presentations on the progress and strategy of the program.
\nProfessionally communicate with stakeholders and partner organizations.<\/p>\n

Requisite Skills:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Minimum two years of relevant, professional work experience (a mix of field experience and administrative experience is highly desired).
\nBachelor\u2019s level degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Sustainable Development, International Development, Economics, Nutrition, Biology or related field.
\nExcellent command of spoken and written English.
\nStrong proficiency in spoken Twi.
\nStrong project coordination\/management skills.
\nProven success in grant writing.
\nExcellent research and proposal\/report writing skills.
\nProficient in Word, Excel and Powerpoint in particular, experienced with conducting statistical analyses on Excel.
\nFamiliar with quick & responsive email communication.
\nExcellent record keeping and documentation skills.
\nAbility to take complex ideas and communicate them in a way that\u2019s easy to understand.
\nStrong attention to detail.
\nSuperb organizational skills.
\nMust be comfortable with performance being measured.
\nPassion for sustainable development and social enterprise.
\nHighly adaptable and flexible; understands the evolution of a growing and dynamic organization.
\nDiligent, punctual, hardworking and very honest.
\nMust be able to trouble-shoot & get creative to achieve organizational goals.
\nMust be comfortable working under pressure in a growth-driven organization.
\nComfortable working under little supervision yet with rigorous reporting mechanisms.
\nAgricultural extension experience is an asset.
\nAdult education experience is an asset.
\nGrant writing experience is an asset.
\nPrevious successful grant applications a strong asset.
\nInternational development experience is an asset
\nReports to: Director of Operations & Social Impact
\nLength of Contract: 1 year, with a three month probation period.<\/p>\n
