BACKGROUND<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Hearts has a proud history dating back to 1911, and a strong reputation within the African football community. The club is one of 16 teams participating in the Ghana Premier League.<\/p>\n

To continue its great tradition Hearts is seeking a passionate business leader, with a strong marketing and business development orientation, who can manage the organization through the next phase of its growth.<\/p>\n

This is an outstanding opportunity to lead Ghana\u2019s oldest football club as it embarks on this new chapter to achieve higher levels of success commercially, financially and on the field.<\/p>\n

The position of Managing Director is very much a \u201clead from the front\u201d role, requiring a person who can manage relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to achieve the business vision, while adding vibrancy and fresh ideas to our approach off the field and waking up sleeping fans with a lot of different initiatives.<\/p>\n

To be considered for this high profile role, you must have significant and successful commercial experience managing a business as Managing Director or major divisional executive level with outstanding strategic management, public relations, communication, business planning and human resource management skills. Your ability to manage various projects with responsibility for financial analysis and budget control is essential. Previous experience managing a high profile or sporting organization will be highly regarded.<\/p>\n

The Managing Director, working closely with and under the supervision of the Executive Chairman, will be responsible for the management and operations of Hearts. Critical to this will be the financial viability of Hearts whilst working within strict governance structures.<\/p>\n

JOB OVERVIEW<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\u2022 Building and maintaining an effective business model
\n\u2022 Establishing and maintaining an effective strategic plan
\n\u2022 Financial management of Hearts
\n\u2022 Development of non-football related revenue streams
\n\u2022 Preparation of three-year rolling plan and annual budgets
\n\u2022 Professional management of facilities and assets
\n\u2022 Ensuring sound corporate management
\n\u2022 Board reporting and preparation of the annual reports
\n\u2022 Establishing and maintaining corporate \/ government relationships
\n\u2022 Maintaining sound relationships and\/or representations at the GFA, PLB and GALCA
\n\u2022 Establishing and maintaining sound relationships with internal and external stakeholders
\n\u2022 Overseeing the operations of Hearts News Ltd
\n\u2022 Overseeing the operations of Hearts Merchandising Ltd
\n\u2022 Overseeing marketing and public relations (including media liaisons and sponsorships)
\n\u2022 Maintaining effective HR policies and procedures<\/p>\n

REPORTING LINES<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The Managing Director will report directly to the Board of Hearts, but will work closely with and under the supervision of the Executive Chairman)<\/p>\n

RESPONSIBILITIES<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\u2022 The Managing Director\u2019s main responsibilities include:<\/p>\n

Overseeing all of Hearts\u2019 Operations<\/strong><\/p>\n

Whilst he will be supported by various managers, the Managing Director will assume overall responsibility for:<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2022 Establishment of sound and effective working relationships with the Head Coach
\n\u2022 Overall performance of all footballing and other activities
\n\u2022 Performance management of the youth development programme
\n\u2022 Effective recruitment and retention of players
\n\u2022 Effective contract negotiations for players and coaching staff (within established budgets)
\n\u2022 Management of player discipline (includingenforcement of a code of conduct)
\n\u2022 Provision of tools and equipment in line with authority limits and budgetary constraints
\n\u2022 Ensuring compliance withrelevant laws and regulations
\n\u2022 Maintenance of effective security arrangements for staff and players at matches
\n\u2022 Development of multiple related revenue streams to ensure financial viability.<\/p>\n

Representation at GFA, PLB, GALCA, etc.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Protecting Hearst interests, in a professional manner through:<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2022 Maintenance of sound working relationships with GFA, PLB and GALCA
\n\u2022 Maintenance of sound working relationships with all other clubs
\n\u2022 Fulfilling all statutory requirements of and obligations to the these bodies<\/p>\n

Establishment and maintenance of good corporate and government relationships<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Sound and effective relationships with local authorities and the government
\n\u2022 Sound and effective relationships with corporate sponsors
\n\u2022 Sound and effective working relationships with external suppliers<\/p>\n

Establishment and maintenance of sound internal working relationships<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Board members
\n\u2022 Coaching staff
\n\u2022 Players
\n\u2022 Administration staff
\n\u2022 Shareholders
\n\u2022 Fans
\n\u2022 Volunteers<\/p>\n

Ensuring sound corporate management<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Maintaining strong general management, marketing and business development focus
\n\u2022 Development strategic and business plans and budgets
\n\u2022 Management of corporate governance issues
\n\u2022 Ensure effective reporting to Board
\n\u2022 Ensure transparency with members and sponsors
\n\u2022 Adhering to Hearts Code of Ethics<\/p>\n

Maintenance of effective HR policies and procedures<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Ensuring HR policies and procedures are documented and communicated
\n\u2022 Implementation of staff recruitment, training and retention strategies
\n\u2022 Ensuring clear definition and communication staff responsibilities
\n\u2022 Development of a culture of continuous improvement
\n\u2022 Annual review of individual performance of staff through a structured performance review
\n\u2022 Development and maintenance of a healthy and safe work environment<\/p>\n

Financial and asset management<\/strong><\/p>\n

In conjunction with the Accounts Manager:<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2022 Managing Hearts\u2019 facilities and assets
\n\u2022 Ensuring proper record-keeping and accounting atHearts and its subsidiaries
\n\u2022 Preparation of business plan and annual budgets<\/p>\n

Overseeing marketing and public relations (including media liaison)<\/strong><\/p>\n

In conjunction with the Administrative and Commercial Manager and the PRO:<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2022 Ensuring the effective branding of Hearts
\n\u2022 Setting targets and increasing sponsorship values
\n\u2022 Ensuring the development and implementation of innovative marketing campaigns
\n\u2022 Implementation of an effective sponsor consultation plan
\n\u2022 Supporting the NCC with innovative strategies to increase fan base
\n\u2022 Creatingexciting programmes to enhance match day experience
\n\u2022 Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with all forms of media
\n\u2022 Ensuring that publications are produced professionally and timely
\n\u2022 Ensuring effective merchandising \u2013 product development and sales<\/p>\n

Board reporting and preparation of the Annual Reports<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Arranging monthly board meetings
\n\u2022 Reporting to the board in a timely and effective manner
\n\u2022 Ensuring that minutes are distributed within agreed timeframes
\n\u2022 Preparing and distributing annual reports within agreed timeframes
\n\u2022 Preparing for AGM and ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations<\/p>\n

\u2022 A strong interest in football and an awareness of the issues affecting football

\n\u2022 Strong understanding of football and the Ghanaian football environment (essential)
