About the organization: Aspire Food Group is an international social enterprise dedicated to the sustainable practice of farming edible insects. With offices in the US and Ghana, Aspire seeks to farm locally desired insects as a way to address food insecurity. In Ghana, Aspire farms the palm weevil larva, a local delicacy that has been traditionally harvested. In addition, Aspire Ghana has also taught several hundred farmers in Southern and Central Ghana to be able to farm their own larva as a
\nsource of household animal protein and as an opportunity for increased income. The research technician would be part of a team that focuses on designing, executing and analyzing experiments aimed at increasing the efficiency of current palm weevil larvae rearing techniques. \nWhile the research technician will be supported by a strong team, he\/she must be comfortable taking initiative and supporting his\/her own projects. The technician must be able to transport themselves to the on-site location of Aspire Ghana\u2019s farm on Mango Road, KNUST Campus on a daily basis.<\/p>\n

\nRecord data on farming experiments and on farming environment
\nAnalyze data related to farm experiments
\nPresent experimental findings to the rest of the team
\nShare responsibilities for laboratory management
\nData management<\/p>\n
\nBachelor\u2019s level degree in Entomology or related field (Biology, Biological Sciences, Agriculture, Animal Sciences, )
\nHighly proficient in Word, Excel and Powerpoint
\nExperienced with conducting statistical analyses on Excel
\nDiligent, punctual, hardworking
\nExcellent communication skills; familiar with quick & responsive email communication
\nBasic lab skills such as microscope use
\nWork under little supervision
\nAbility to design, observe and make appropriate conclusions for research experiments with adult, larvae and egg stages of insects
\nExcellent record keeping and documentation skills
\nMust be able to trouble-shoot to achieve organizational goals<\/p>\n
