History
\nGhana Insurance Industry traces its root to the colonial era when insurance business was transacted through foreign trading companies who acted as chief agents of insurance companies in the United Kingdom and elsewhere.<\/p>\n
In 1924 Royal Exchange Assurance Corporation which was then represented by its Chief Agent, Barclays Bank, opened its branch in the Gold Coast. It then became the first insurance company to operate in Ghana. It is now known as Enterprise Insurance Company after going through a series of changes. After that many other foreign companies opened offices in the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n

\n\u2022 Undertake research on a wide range of technical and sales\/marketing issues in collaboration with the relevant technical committees and produce detailed research and reports on various general insurance products to assist in organising seminars\/training in areas of need
\n\u2022 Initiate new thinking and programmes to advance insurance penetration and development in Ghana and constantly recommend innovative ways, taking into account best practices in other jurisdictions that can support and facilitate the General Insurance Council\u2019s decisions on business growth and development
\n\u2022 Produce monthly, quarterly and annual reports on the activities of the General Insurance Council and its technical committees
\n\u2022 Support the generation of industry data\/information relating to general insurance companies and the general insurance sector for the Ghana Insurance Industry database (GIID) and for any publications \/ periodicals that the GIA would introduce in the future
\n\u2022 Play leading role in the organisation of all projects and activities of the sector and produce timely and comprehensive reports on outcomes of seminars and workshops and promotional activities relating to general insurance business
\n\u2022 Coordinate decisions of the General Insurance Council towards enhancing technical cooperation among members
\n\u2022 Ensure the dissemination of underwriting and claims standards that the General Insurance Council comes up with throughout the industry
\n\u2022 Liaise with member companies to provide information on legistlative and statutory impediments to profitable operations and growth of the industry as an input to the General Councils decisions and recommendations to the Board
\n\u2022 Setup an effective monitoring system to determine breaches to fair trade practices and market practice rules and regulations
\n\u2022 serve as ex-ffocio member\/secretary to the General Insurance Council and the executives of the expanded General Insurance Technical Committees on general insurance products
\n\u2022 Participate in media engagements and other public education programme relating to the General insurance sector
\n\u2022 Contribute to the Association\u2019s efforts at developing effective and innovative ways of generating extra income aside subscriptions
\n\u2022 Any other duties assigned by the Board, General Insurance Council and the CEO<\/p>\n
\n\u2022 ACII, WAII, Advance Diploma from GIC or any relevant technical qualification in insurance
\nExperience
\n\u2022 8 years of working experience in the insurance industry 5 of which must be in a managerial position. The candidate must have strong interest and capacity in
\nresearch and in fresh thinking \/ innovation in the general insurance sector
