The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) <\/strong>was established by the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) in December 2005. As part of its strategic engagement in the promotion of democratization and good governance in Africa, OSIWA conceived the idea of establishing WACSI for the development of the capacity of civil society organizations (CSOs) in West Africa.<\/p>\n

The objectives of WACSI are primarily to serve as an independent resource center for civil society organisations in West Africa through knowledge production, policy generation, training and capacity development in the sub-region; to strengthen and promote the institutionalisation of CSOs, and enhance their skills and capacity to engage state and policy processes effectively.<\/p>\n

Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n

WACSI seeks committed, motivated and dynamic persons to join its team in contributing to enhancing civil society’s professionalism, efficiency and effectiveness in West Africa. Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified persons for the under listed position.<\/p>\n

Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, the Senior Program, Research and Documentation Officer will serve as an active member of the senior management team working closely with the Training and Capacity Building, and Policy Advocacy Officers. She\/he will have primary responsibility of WACSI’s program development, monitoring and evaluation, and implement WACSI’s research and documentation strategy.<\/p>\n

Provide leadership in WACSI’s program development, monitoring and evaluation
\nProvide visionary and innovative intellectual and administrative leadership in WACSI’s research and documentation department
\nProduce academically rigorous publications on the activities and issues of concern to civil society in West Africa
\nBuild partnerships with research organizations and think tanks in the region
\nDevelop and build a team of WACSI researchers
\nOrganize in collaboration with the Policy Advocacy unit, policy dialogue seminars and forums for civil society, policy makers, and other key stakeholders
\nLiaise with the Training and Capacity Building unit to provide relevant training for research teams and CSOs in general
\nDevelop WACSI’s M&E plans in collaboration with other units and supervise the implementation of those plans<\/p>\n

Required Skills or Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n

An MPhil or higher in international relations, political science or other relevant social sciences
\n10 years post qualification with relevant work experience in the Non-Governmental sector, at least 5 of which must be related to doing research and documentation; program planning and development
\nCommensurate experience in project monitoring and evaluation
\nFluency in English and French
\nStrong research background
\nApplicant must have published several peer reviewed articles and any of the following areas; democracy and governance, peace and security, policy advocacy
\nStrategic programming skills
\nStrong project management and supervisory skills
\nMonitoring and evaluation skills
\nKnowledge management expertise
\nFamiliarity with West Africa’s socio-political context
\nDynamic, self-motivated and be able to work independently
\nTeam builder and player<\/p>\n
