OSRL are seeking highly motivated team players to join our oil spill response team in Ghana. We are looking for applicants for our entry level role of Responder where you will be trained to effectively support oil spill response operations on a Global basis. Responders will also carry out the day-to-day response readiness activities, such as the upkeep and maintenance of oil spill response equipment and continuous training to develop, maintain and hone personal competence. Additionally as your skills develop you will be expected to assist with preparedness activities, such as training delivery and consultancy based tasks.

Our teams are made up of people with a wide variety of backgrounds, so if you have any of these skills or experience plus a zest for adventure then we’d like to hear from you:

You might have read Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Oceanology or similar science at University or have an engineering degree. Maybe you are currently working in an environmental role without necessarily having a degree-level qualification. We need people who can understand and justify complicated trade-offs in choosing oil spill response strategies.

You might have undertaken an apprenticeship or learnt a trade in the armed services. We are particularly interested in people with a mechanical engineering or marine engineering hands-on background. Our spill response equipment is largely made up of diesel-driven hydraulic plant and pumping systems, so if you are familiar with this sort of machinery we’ll be glad to hear from you.

You might be working in a civil contingencies planning or a disaster relief role or maybe have completed a degree in disaster management or similar. You might be working in a different role where you are involved in complicated international logistics, perhaps with the armed forces. In order to deliver an effective response, we need to mobilise our people and equipment from our bases at a moment’s notice to anywhere in the world.

You might be a deck officer in the armed forces, coastguard or merchant fleets or a professional mariner within another role. Although we do respond to land-based spills, our big risks are at sea and a knowledge of seamanship and an understanding of tides, currents and charts is an important piece of oil spill response.

At OSRL we are interested in applicants from all these areas as long as you have:
