Job Location: Tamale Ghana, with frequent travel to the assign MMDAs up to 80% time
\nPurpose: To support nutrition activities in selected districts of the Northern Region of Ghana.

Project Description
\nThe Resiliency in Northern Ghana (RING) project is a 5-year integrated project funded by the USAID Feed the Future (FtF) Initiative and is designed to contribute to the Government of Ghana\u2019s (GoG) efforts to sustainably reduce poverty and improve the nutritional status of vulnerable populations. The goal of RING is to improve livelihoods and nutritional status of househ olds in 17 Districts of the Northern Region. John Snow Inc. (JSI) provides technical assistance for the implementation of the nutrition activities of the RING project as a subcontractor to Global Communities.<\/p>\n

Job Summary<\/strong><\/p>\n

JSI is seeking a Senior Nutrition Officer who will monitor district-level nutrition activities in line with RING mechanisms in collaboration with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs). The Senior Nutrition Officer will provide direct technical assistance to district-level nutrition activities, focusing on implementation, quality review, integrity of trainings (including community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM), infant and young child feeding (IYCF), anemia, Support Groups, Commodity management and quality improvement (QI); follow-up on implementation by trainees, and competency criteria in target districts. This position will require a background in nutrition with at least 2 years of experience in similar project.
\nDuration of contract: 9 months
\nReporting Relationship: The Senior Nutrition Officer reports to the RING Nutrition Component Manager based in Tamale, Ghana.<\/p>\n

Major Duties and Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n

Implement day-to-day nutrition activities as outlined in the RING work plan, focused on building capacity of district level staff, and providing technical support to district staff to develop, budget, and implement nutrition activities included in District Assembly work plans.
\nCoordinate with and provide technical assistance to Ghana Health Service District Nutrition Officers.
\nIdentify new opportunities to integrate and strengthen nutrition activities within local health systems and community services, in collaboration with District Assemblies.
\nSupport training of facility-based personnel in major program topics as outlined in the RING work plan, including IYCF, CMAM, Commodity management, Supports groups, QI, Essential Nutrition Actions (ENA), and Anemia Prevention and Control.
\nContribute to the development of written nutrition resource materials, including process and implementation guidelines appropriate for use by District Assemblies and project staff.
\nProvide routine written programmatic and technical reports as required.
\nHelp with activity verification and monitoring (stock and program quality) at supported MMDA to ensure smooth, high-quality program implementation
\nAssist the Nutrition Component Manager prepare project teams quarterly and annual Work plans.
\nCollect and compile project data regularly to submit to the Nutrition Component Manager, including case studies, success stories, photographs of implemented activities and other documents as needed.
\nEnsure the quality of data through proper revision, cleaning and approval.
\nMonitor performance of nutrition activities against indicators and program goals and identify and document challenges and best practices in collaboration with RING monitoring and evaluation staff.
\nConduct intensive joint supervision visits of district level nutrition activities with District Assemblies.
\nDevelop and sustain relationships within the nutrition community in target districts.
\nCoach, mentor and supervise MTMSG Monitors based at the respective district.
\nParticipate in routine meetings of District Assemblies, RING staff, and local partners as needed.
\nSupport quality improvement efforts in assigned districts.<\/p>\n

Required Skills or Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bachelor\u2019s degree in Nutrition, Community Health, Program Management, Public Health, or similar field with a Master\u2019s degree preferred
\nAt least five (5) years of proven experience in implementing nutrition development programs
\nStrong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
\nExcellent written and verbal English skills
\nFluency in relevant local languages
\nFamiliarity with nutrition issues in Ghana at the national and district level
\nAbility to effectively work independently
\nDemonstrated ability to work with local authorities in Ghana, especially at the district level.
\nDemonstrated understanding of government protocols and ability to effectively manage cross-ministerial and department communications
\nDemonstrated ability to translate technical information into practical guidance and tools and effectively communicate these to stakeholders at the district level
\nPreviously trained in IYCF, ENA, CMAM, anemia and QI a plus
\nMust be authorized to work in Ghana
\nAbility and willingness to travel domestically within the Northern Region up to 80% of time<\/p>\n
