Description
\nWorld Education, Inc. seeks a local candidate for a Grants and Finance Officer based in Tamale, Ghana pending award from DFID\/Girls\u2019 Education Challenge\/Leave No Girl Behind.<\/p>\n

The programme aims to improve the literacy and numeracy skills of highly marginalized out-of-school girls and transition them into formal school or employment. This programme seeks to decrease key barriers to access quality education, opportunities for employment and improving safety of highly marginalized girls in schools and their communities, while increasing girls\u2019 knowledge and adoption of positive behaviours, empowering them to become leaders and role models within their communities.<\/p>\n

The Grants and Finance Officer reports to the Grants Manager and is responsible for distributing, managing, monitoring and reporting on sub-awardee grants as well as managing and reporting the WEI Tamale Office finances. The Grants and Finance Officer will serve as the regional contact for Northern Sector sub-awardees on all financial issues. She\/he will work closely with NGO Downstream Partners to provide support and capacity building for financial structures within NGO Downstream Partners.<\/p>\n

Responsibilities<\/p>\n

Grant Management Responsibilities<\/p>\n

Support financial management of sub-grantees and maintain local sub-grant partner files;
\nMaintain grants management database;
\nFacilitate funds transfer to sub-grant partners;
\nConduct assessments of partners to determine qualifications and readiness to carry out work;
\nReview sub-grantee expenditure reports and process disbursements to sub-grantees;
\nCollaborate closely with national Finance and Operations Manager and Grants Officer;
\nTrack budget disbursements and advances reconciliations by sub-grant partners.
\nOther responsibilities as assigned.
\nFinancial Management Responsibilities<\/p>\n

Handling day to day accounting transactions
\nReconcile all staff advance accounts and bank accounts;
\nMaintain orderly, hard-copy financial records including back-up documentation, bank statements, Cost Point Reports, etc.;
\nEnsuring statements of expenditure for activities are correct and captured in the accounting system;
\nAssist in preparation and tracking of budgets;
\nCompile regional office cash forecasts to prepare cash forecasts for the project;
\nAssume other financial responsibilities as assigned.
\nRequired Skills or Experience<\/p>\n

Minimum<\/p>\n

Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Finance, Accounting or other relevant academic background;
\nMinimum of 5 years of work post-degree experience in the development field;
\nExperience in grants management and financial reviews for major development agencies;
\nAbility to present complex financial information in a succinct and compelling manner;
\nSolid experience in management of budgets;
\nSolid experience in financial reporting to various donors;
\nWorking knowledge of QuickBooks;
\nStrong computer skills with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
\nExperience working with DFID funding preferred.
\nPreferred<\/p>\n

Experience planning and facilitating meetings
\nDemonstrated training experience
\nDemonstrated experience building partnerships and networks between multiple programmatic partners
\nStrong analytical and reporting skills
\nStrong English written and spoken communication skills<\/p>\n
